The Warner Brothers Irony.... Isn't funny looking back to Prince's contract with Warner Brothers? They kept telling Prince that he was creating music too fast and wouldn't allow prince to release all of his music. Look at today's music stars like Beyonce, Drake, and lil' Wayne. Obviously these people are no where near Prince's calibar of a superstar. All of these modern day singers/rappers seem to be constantly flooding the market with their music and they seem to be very successful with this strategy. Damn, it seems like Beyonce, Drake, and Wayne are releasing a new track every week. With this said, I hope they start releasing Princes music ASAP. The average Prince fan is in their 40-50's. We can't wait forever to hear these unreleased Prince Gems. Please release this shit ASAP!!! All of us Prince fans will spend all of our cash on his Music, Just open the flood gates! |

To be fair, Prince was putting together albums at a WAY faster rate than any of these new stars. I don't think any of them put out even a full album's worth of music each year, they just strategically release singles periodically to keep the buzz going. Not saying that Warner Brothers should have stifled Prince's creativity, but given the way the industry was set up at the time and how much they seemed to accomodate him (he couldn't have been easy to work with), I don't blame them for drawing the line somewhere. |

I guess you did not know
The did want the following projects at all.
Wanted to hand back his contract after Dirty Mind.
Did not think 1999 was any good
Did not want When Doves Cry or Kiss to be singles.
Did not want Gett Off at all.
Did not think " Let's Go Crazy " would get play on black radio as if he was only going to ever get played on black radio.

Do your research. This post is ignorant. I’ve been informed that my opinion is worth less than those expressed by others here. |

But they ultimately released all of those, did they not? Might have took some fighting from Prince, but Warner Bros still ended up taking chances and putting out a lot of his work. I'm not saying Warner Bros was perfect or always in the right, but they were a record label trying to do business. If Prince was putting out 2-3 of his own albums each year in addition to his protege work, you don't think that'd be a bit much from a consumer point of view? Sure, the diehard fans would be more than happy, but how many casual listeners would be willing to keep up and fork out the money for all of those releases each year? It was smarter to put out one album at a time and focus on making the most of it through promotion. |

The deluge of product on the consumer is working fantastically for James Patterson, the author. He's got a new book out practically every month and has TV shows based on his books. I say Prince's career would have survived just fine if he was allowed to release two or even three albums per year. He had enough fans to make it profitable for WB and himself.
