Sign o the times 30 years old.Thoughts?

People say its his defining moment and some say it needed more work. For me its a masterpiece.

Adorecream

Its great, it is a part of my life, an indelible part. It is memories, joy, love, frustration and pain for its creator is gone. It is a symphony, it is Godlike and I wax lyrical about it everywhere here and on youtube. To know me is to know my love of Sign o the Times.

.

Check my sig.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I remember when it came out and going to see the movie. I felt like he was back on track after going so far out with Around the World in a day ( at the time people were shocked. Expected another Porple Rain I guess) Always wondered why adore wasn't in the concert movie.

It's his finest album. I love that era.

I remember going to see the movie with my friend Noel (RIP). We pretty much had the theater to ourselves. I wish it had done better at the box office, but I have to admit it was great to watch without the distractions that other people provide.

2nd best of all his album, for me.

Lovesexy is the 1st.

I was staying with my Aunt Cookie at her house in Fayetteville, NC. My grandfather lived with her and it was me and my brother and I remember going to see Police Academy 4 and then heading to the record store where my aunt bought me a jewelbox casette of Sign O The Times.

I was digging the title track as a single release but it was so different for Prince, I actually didn't even realize it was Prince the first time I heard it. I didn't know what to expect of the album. I had my walkman casette player and I remember playing it once. Then again. And again. I played it non-stop over the course of that week. I absolutely loved the album, I was completely wrapped in the journey. It starts with a song about death and ends with a song about undying love, with so many twists and turns in between. U Got the Look sounded like a hit, which it was. If I Was Your Girlfriend sounded like an awesome album track that fans would love and others would misunderstand. It was. Dorothy Parker sounded like the weirdest freaking song I had ever heard. And Adore...oh my gosh, that was the freaking jam, loved that song from the first time I heard it, still love it.

What an exciting time to be a Prince fan. The title track was a hit, IIWYG bombed on the pop charts, and then U Got the Look playing non-stop on MTV. The whole look, Prince with glasses that I looked for everywhere and couldn't find any like that. Funny little memories like the day I was mowing the grass listening to Sign O the Times on my walkman and I mowed over a tree trunk that I wasn't paying attention to and about killed myself.

LOVE Sign O the Times, the album, song, movie, and experience.

All good things they say never last...

Same here. I remember buying the cassette the day it came out and playing it on repeat that day trying to wrap my head around the genius of it. Also remember 9 months later driving across town to the only theater that was playing the movie. I hadn't seen him live yet by this point and only had the Syracuse VHS to base my expectations on, the movie blew me away.

brilliant album! woot!

not 1 single bad note on this. Ok Slow Love is maybe the only not exactly great track, however in the movie Slow Love is just wonderful (much better)

I did burn this album on 1 80-minutes CD-r yesterday:

The reason these were on 2 discs back in 1987, is the cd's back then only contained 74 minutes (not 80 like today)...

I only needed to cut 1 or 2 seconds, (silence inbetween tracks)

NOW: I need this album in a re-master with bonus and dvd's.. Just like Purple Rain, in next month june 23..

SOTT re-master would be a dream.... excited

what a shame.. I wonder what happened, f*ck Universal, screwing this.. eek eek

I hope another company takes up the chance, releasing the classics 1978 to 1988!

Imagine:

1999,
Around The World in A Day,
Parade,
Sign "O" The Times,
Lovesexy

re-released, the way they should be with bonus and dvd's... eek cool cool cool

Great performance, especially the frenetic Play In The Sunshine performance.
