Did Prince ever have a "filler" cut on an album?

Come and Chaos n Disorder seem like filler songs as albums mostly.
During the classic era though:
Glam Slam The Max Arrogance It Hot Thing Tick Tick Bang Trust Lemon Crush "Climb in my fur."

Is this asked in jest? I mean...really? I'd say no 1979-1990 but after that holy shitballs YES.

Im aware. As a whole, listening to the albums in one sitting, these seemed likefiller to me per rodeo's filler requiremnts. Not that I dont like/love some of them (Lemon Crush, Glam, It) either.

Y'all REALLY love Symbol album. I have no idea why though. The whole album could be erased from his repetoire and not be missed. "Climb in my fur."

Chaos & Disorder and Planet Earth, were complete albums of fillers...3121 has some too.. ...Lotusflow3r too... the 3rd Eye Girl lp is heavy with filler...The Gold Experience lp has some too..thats about it though...i wont even consider judging the 2 hitnrun albums since the man was getting himself ready to go home...

Depends on how you define "filler". In my mind, it means that an artist doesn't have enough songs ready for an album, so (s)he just throws in anything (s)he has recorded to fill the 30-40 minutes that makes an LP. A good example is James Brown. He had a hit with Papa's Got a Brand New Bag in 1965, but it was his only new song, so the album with the same title just had songs recorded (and released!) in the previous years. Motown used to do this too. If one of their acts had a hit, grab some songs together, give it the title of the hit and bang! you have an album. Prince, as we all know, never had to do this. His dilemma was the exact opposite: all these great songs that he had that couldn't be on an album because there was just no room. So each and every song he ever put on an album was there because he thought it needed to be there. Whether or not we, who have heard some of his great unreleased music, agree with his choices , is of course a different matter!

Yeah, it was, but that was a joke from Prince. Lots of CDs had hidden tracks at the end, so this was just Prince's way of having a little fun with that, see if anyone would make it through all those tracks of a few seconds of silence to find the hidden gem. I remember talking to a music journo I used to know back then who included it in his review while a collegue of his missed it! So Prince's little joke worked...

And as for Do U Lie, the whole Under the Cherry Moon/Parade concept was about nostalgia, it was filmed in France, so having something that sounds like a French chanson on that album totally fit within the concept. No filler at all. Once again, "filler" is NOT the same as "a song I don't like". [Edited 5/4/17 12:36pm]

I've always thought of "Lemon Crush" as filler; "I'm runnin' out of things to call you."

This! Although during his golden era, there were some songs I could do without, or perhaps some I love way more than others. He didnt release a bad album during that run, but there are/were weaker moments on each one. The 90s? I'm in too good of a mood to talk shit. Get in your mouse, and get out of here!

In one of the many interviews with Susan Rogers she mentioned that Play In The Sunshine was one of the songs that was recorded to fill space between other songs on the album. Now granted, that does not mean the song (or songs recorded for similar reasons) is filler in the sense that it wasn't given effort. . In any event, I guess that makes it as close to filler as it comes. . (and no, Venus de Milo is not filler, no matter what anyone says, and Prince agrees, he kept playing it regularly up to and including his last tour) Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here!

I agree.I think this song is too simplistic. The lyrics are lazy ("barely 21....lookin' for big fun").It would have been cool if this song was removed from the album and replaced with the superior, more creative "Wonderful Ass"

in Rolling Stone's review of the Batman album, the writer said....
