Why didn't PR REMASTER come out in 2014 on the 30yr anniversary ? The PR REMASTER has been in the works for a while and was originally slated for a 2014 release to coincide with the 30 year anniversary I'm just curious why this didn't end up happening ? |

Prince didn't own his masters yet... He just got them back around 2014...
He remastered Purple Rain in 2015... But I guess as rumor goes he didn't include any bonus material of songs from the vault on it so WB didn't release it... When Prince posted on twitter saying boycott WB, the remaster is in their hands... |

You know, this has been posted (especially by me) repeatedly on the Org. I'm just sayin', a search would have turned up answers, in perpetuity.
But, it was a done deal in 2014. He had his masters back as part of the WB deal to distribute AOA & PE (everything through 1993 or so; the rest being NPG stuff which is totally different). However, WB wasn't willing to pay him what he thought was fair, therefore he stalled the process. Dr. Funkenberry talked about the set happening for sure. But even he didn't foresee the breakdown of the process later on. Prince tweeted about the money issue and told fans to ask Warner about it.
So, it just sat on the shelf. After his passing, WB knew they could now release it. As far as the extra stuff, I'm not sure how much was on there or not. I would think that maybe those 7" and 12" singles were, but that outtake stuff - I'm not sure if anyone knows. Maybe someone does.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |

Well I am waiting till Thursday when I will have my copy and listen, mainly for what the quality of a lot of the 12" stuff is. A lot of the edits and B sides etc...that I would guess has always been in WB's Possession since much has been out on vinyl now whether they are using that is a source I cant say for sure. As for the outtakes again who really knows, he may have given them tapes or a pick of what they could have but I still feel that in some cases he did not turn over masters to them of unreleased stuff OR the tapes he had were not kept well and were losing quality. We forget that many times these things were recorded some of the time PRINCE was also the engineer especially if it was a long day

According to Dr. Funkenberry Prince did not want to add extra tracks and for this project WB did not have access to Prince's vault but they pulled songs from their vault. Which explains why some of the songs have nothing to do with PR. Which is kind of stupid but in the end we do not to hear stuff never heard before and even Prince knew stuff was going to come out someday. |
