It's only two (or three) albums, and they all kind of bleed together, so just listen to them all. It's all very good, you won't be disappointed.

Personally I prefer the 16 album to 8, but both are really good...

Make it so, Number One...

16 has a different feel than the first record. I love all of 8.

The one on 16 that I don't care for as much is "11". It sort of goes nowhere, IMO.

I adore "12". It has that big band feel that I love so much. Big band is one of my favorite genres, even as a kid. "9" and "16" sound like fanfares, one being an intro to something bigger, and the latter sounding like a credit roll or a curtain call at a play. They bookend the album quite well. 16 has a more theatrical feel to it, whereas 8 was much more pointed in what it was doing.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

2 and 7.

I liked the 8 album much better than the 16 album. The three commercial sounding tracks on the 16 album really brought that album down. All the other tracks on that album were fantastic.

the 8 album doesn't sound like Prince much, apart from 6 (which is probably why it was released as a single). 16 is like a more Prince-generic version of Madhouse. And everything after is just Prince instrumental music with a jazzy slant.

.

I prefer 8, just throw out 6. It's got the nicest drum sound on any Prince album until Rainbow Children.
