I agree with you about the satanic panic of the early 80s. For me it wasn't just his sometimes spooky look but his main mantra, Do whatever you want as long as no one gets hurt. Tbh, great mantra to have, we can't complain. But combine that with his look, his yo-yoing between two extremes (black but fooled people into thinking he had white in him, constantly singing about God but in a way that didn't sound all that respectful and singing about fucking one line later, male but with female elements to his image, incorporating women in his band while being very mysoginistic sometimes, etc etc.. That's why I think if he was really interested in 'both sides' of every coin, it's not hard to believe he might have dabbled with Old Nick a little back then, maybe even returning to God right after out of fear. Prince was only human and as a rising superstar in his twenties, who knows how extreme he might have gone privately compared to his image. He found a solid religion as he got older and for that im happy for him The do as thou Wilt doctrine, lol I forgot I wanted to touch on that. This was a mantra from beginning till becoming JW. Not only is this a common element in wealthy rock stars but a now common practice here in the west. I can remember who popularized it Crowley or Levay, but it's actually now a pervasive sentiment in American culture especially. Prince embodied do as thou Wilt because of the privilege afforded by wealth & fame. & If we're honest with ourselves Prince was a human being - We often talk about his influences, but we never take into consideration how success influenced him. His groupie endeavors was well documented. Put yourself in his shoes... Your very horny, wealthy & magnetic. & Your well aware of all of it. Alot of his music came across as hedonistic because that was probably engraved into his nature for much of his career. Post age 35 some of the hormones naturally relaxed a little & he got married, Prince relaxed the rockstar lifestyle around the emancipation era. Hormones can be so controlling, mix wealth & unfettered access to woman & you gotta pretty vain life on your hands lol. Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one bird.

True. But she didn't claim to remember it happening, she said people saw her doing it (when she was sleeping and didn't even know it was happening)

P sang "Most people in this world are born dead, but I was born alive" in Way Back Home. He tried to awaken people to what is really going on around them (schools, chemtrails, etc.) and was labelled a "conspiracy theorist". That label is meant to be derogatory and is used against anyone who actually says "The Emporer has no clothes". As for this "occult" thing - it's all been conjecture to try to explain away his "sudden" rise and hold over the music industry. Can't let it be what it actually was: drive, determination, talent, vision (and that included a host of other people as well). The source of the "he felt God was punishing him with the death of our child" is, at best, highly questionable. P NEVER denouced God in any way, shape or form but instead always sang the praises of the God he understood. Like everyone else, his spiritual journey was his own and personal even though he shared bits and pieces of it. God is my Sugar Daddy.

Lol if it's 'bullshit' then Prince believed in bullshit because he definitely acknowledged the concept of the Devil and sang of his struggle between good and bad Maybe do, just not like did before

Knowing that Prince was a joker, could it be that he told people to tell her that as a joke?
I do believe Prince was into some occult or even satanic stuff at one point early in his career but I don't believe in it nor do I believe it is why he was a great artist. Whatever the case, he seemed to have found peace before he died.

Vanity, Sheila etc health issues etc. Morris and them with drug issues. Im not syaing its occult but just Hollywood/Music excess yes but some of that shit going on with Prince and his presentation? Surrounding folks got touched by it if youre into that kind of occult conspiracy thang. And yeah, some of them ran for the pulpit. Mase did too after fucking with Puffy lol.

there are a couple theories, one is that warners told him that they would not do any promotion for the album and that's when Prince made the about face but the most popular one is the story of excstasy with ingrid chavez and how he saw god and thought the black album was a work of the devil and evil. He then made lovesexy. I'm sure you know all this BTW.

some people have said that overt religiousity is a response to wild and loose living in youth. I grew up in church and the most common stories were how fucked up people were before they got saved, how much they liked dick or drugs or whatever until jesus saved them. It's a compensatory thing. I do know that dez has spoken out about P's lyrics and the guilt he felt looking out and seeing 13 year old girls sing along. but honestly, in any band there are issues, most bands do not stay together long it's just a fact of rock and roll life.

the writing in the lovesexy program tells the story, it seems prince was a bit upset at rap as a coming force and that he was slipping into nostalgia because of it, i'd say the black album was by and large a response to rap, the people saying he lost his funk and just his always festering frustration over everything known to man. he thought it was inspired by the devil and he called the devil spooky electric on lovesexy. I never heard anything satanic on the black album, just lots of anger and rage and humor too. [Edited 5/19/17 16:19pm]

who's mase? I don't know, fame is heady stuff, that lifestyle is not a real lifestyle, it's like an alternate reality. I worked on a movie set and all I could think of was how those people didn't live in the real world, it's like they live the fantasy. If you're head isn't screwed on tight you are gonna have a lot of problems.

I'm glad this is being revisited. There was a great post about this before. Either way; gimmick or not, incredulous, superstition or not, or simply that ANY COLOR, NUMBER OR SEASON can be invoked to denote SOMETHING because the human experience is limited. ..who knows. But a simple google search reveals issues with Lotusflow3r (3 hexagons within each other 6,6,6)...the originally obvious 1999 album cover either an homage to the super bowl trophy or phallic carnage 666 Ann and the all seeing eye upside down. Peep this bit on 20ten referencing Ishtar and Saturn Www.Revelationnow.net/201...bum-cover/ Also, something of curiosity. When news hit that P was dead some ppl like me; looked towards his recent deals and his works and masters reverting back to himself soon in installations....and wondered if he was killed. The same thing with the first posthumous Michael Jackson album THIS IS IT which showcased a "baphomet-like" cover pose. Fast forward to Prince's 4ever which, though I've never bought it, showcased frustrated pictures from a photographer's session that apparently P wanted struck from "THE ORG" after his JW conversion. Interestingly. The inner photos of the album show P striking a pose and casting a very "baphomet-like" shadow on the wall. Now is this invoking satanic imagery to evoke a reaction from rebellious kids and then lead them to his God stuff or is it just using the imagery for publicity, like the metal band VENOM has aptly admitted to? It's something to be discussed. Bear on mind that virtually anything in NATURE can be invoked to be devilish in many strict cultures, especially sects of Christianity, so paranoid are they all about recognizing the earth. Either way it's a legacy discussion that NEEDS TO BE HEARD ♫"Trollin, Trolling! We could have fun just trollin'!"♫

hovering over a bed seems to be a common story, I once thought I did when i was a teen, to this day I couldn't tell you if it was real or a dream but I remember it. That doesn't explain everything i saw though. Maybe it was her survival strategy. Didn't she say there was sexual abuse in her home environment as a child?
