SweetKathleen

yes Excellent answer, I concur.

Edit: this was supposed to be in response to SpookyNopetopus' statement regarding not particularly liking Larry but understanding that he has a right to grieve for his friend.

I miss you my friend --jj, me, and many others

I always loved Sly and The Family Stone. Larry Graham is a great bass player! I cannot judge him or P on their religious beliefs. We all are searching or have searched for a better way and something good to believe in. Something to help us through hard and bad times. We don't know what P was going through but we do know that at least he had one person who he trusted enough to be able to shed his mask and reveal his heartache, pain, grief, and vulnerabilities with. In life, it is not easy if at all to find this. Larry Graham seems to be genuinely broken. He hasn't spoken to the media or written a book. He has conducted himself as a true friend.

After reading Mayte's book I started to separate my GCS records from my Prince records on the shelf.

That's normal behaviour right?

Can you go into more detail what you are referring to in Mayte's book and GCS??? confused

According to his website, nothing is scheduled. Were you at this tribute? It is quite moving.

Regardless of people's feelings about Larry, I think he cared for Prince and has a right to grieve in his own way.

Mayte paints a vivid picture of the time when the Grahams first really got their claws into Prince. She's fairly nice about it, but it does bring back memories of the concerns / comments from fellow Prince fans back in the late nineties, most of which seem validated now.

When the happy-clappy JW stuff was in full swing, and Larry was guiding his "baby brother" spiritually at Bible discussion groups etc, it seemed to be a time when Prince was profoundly depressed and vulnerable. To read of Prince denying medical treatment for his wife and son because of his faith... it's hard to know what to think about that. Personally I cringe to see Prince and Larry onstage together, despite being a fan of GCS.

My understanding is that he never denied medical treatment for his son. An amniocentisis is not a treatment. Its a test that could result in miscarriage and wouldn't have saved his son. Its more for the parents. Pfeiffer Syndrome is genetic and I don't think it can be cured from the womb.

He discouraged treatment for her during the miscarriage but never denied it. Didn't his limo driver take her? Prince could have told him not to I assume. I am not agreeing with these actions but he couldn't legally deny treatment for either one.

Nice tribute but religious fanatics really are nothing more than brain washers, Selfishly, I don't like that part of Prince's life. Great bass player though that LG.

Larry did a very moving rendition of Purple Rain and Nothing Compares 2 U at the London tribute in June last year. The loss was still recent and it was very hard to hold back the tears.

(,,,)Prince wasn't helpless. He was smart and a seeker and made his own decisions. I don't know if later when Prince wanted to open up to other spiritual paths, if their opinions differed, that happens sometimes. (,,,).

.

THIS is something that makes me real curious about Prince. Because the eastern beliefs he was embracing (Lotus Flower, 3rd Eye, etc) are very much rejected by christians in general. I would love to do how Prince started with it after being a JW for such a long time.

I know many fans dislike Larry´s influence on Prince, and I dont believe in JW doctrine, but, coincidence or not, Prince seemed to feel better after he met Larry. In the 90s, he was very angry and sad.

Co-sign. Some have also said he was embracing Christianity more in the last few years of his life, not exclusively JW doctrine. It makes me happy to know how much happier and at peace Prince was in the last 15+ years his life (which is not long after he met Larry). He grew spiritually (and said in public that he was focusing on that) and found more peace and happiness. That is something that gives me peace and makes me happy in spite of all of the other chaotic and sad things out there.
