Purple Rain Deluxe and other thoughts... Some things to think about...
Everything announced for this PR release (as well as Moonbeam on 4Ever) is material that could have concievably been on WB's shelves since the 80's. Isn't the story that he did tons of songs in preparation for the film/album and whittled it down to what was released? Seems likely that WB may have posession of many tracks, whether or not Prince gave them to them specifically for this project. Given the sound quality (blown out highs, etc.) the source seems to have been something they couldn't do a heck of a lot with (or, they HAVE done a lot of work with what they had, and this is as good as it gets).
We haven't heard ANY sort of confirmation of what - if anything - was found in "the vault" or what the condition was. You'd think that if WB had any access to any of this material, that would be trumpeted in the information about the PR release.
A new edition of Purple Rain was announced way back in 2014...yet didn't come out when people expected it to. At one point, Prince himself said, when asked about the delay, that he had given it to WB and they were refusing to put it out. Why? Did he give them something they didn't think would sell? Does "Paisley Park Remaster" (as apposed to, simply, "remaster") indicate something?
Why has WB's information about this release been so erratic? This SHOULD be a major release, but it seems like they are flying by the seat of their pants. NO detailed information about the release. NO mention (in the announcement) of the coordinated re-release of PR related 12" singles & picture disc - this should be a much larger effort as the first significant posthumous release. We're a little more than a month from release and there has been, seemingly, no effort made to cultivate excitement about it.
This part, I know, is hearsay - but a buyer for a music retailer that I know said last year that, according to their WB rep, WB's hands are very tied by the agreement they made with Prince back in 2014. According to what I was told, WB is not allowed to change packaging or content of any reissues... which has proven to be true of all of the single and LP reissues so far (apart from the addition of the NPG copyright credit). What does that mean for future releases? Why has the LP reissue series stopped?

Yes, I know the tracklist - my post isn't about that.

I mean.... it's a sticky for a reason. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I mean... if there's something you want to say more directly, that would be nice.
I'm assuming you mean that you think that I should have just contributed to further dilluting a thread that says it's about the track listing. Again, my post isn't about that topic.
And now, it's getting to be less and less about what it was intended to be... [Edited 5/12/17 18:18pm]

The main thing that's strange to me is the complete lack of promotion for it. I can't fathom why the reissue for one of the best selling albums in history isn't being advertised more.
But then again, we're about 5.5 weeks out, and maybe it will pick up as we get closer to June 23rd. U fall in love 2 fast and hate 2 soon
And take 4 granted the feeling’s mutual
