Picturing Prince Frame By Frame Picturing Prince Frame By Frame
My hope is that his humanity doesn’t get lost in it. He was not a mystic who waved his hand and made it happen - Paisley Park and all the magic that happened there, all the music and art. He was a person, one who built from nothing the exact world he wanted and then lived in it every day. He was human, like all of us, but he made the choice to push in monumental ways in every second at every opportunity instead of standing back and letting life happen. If you were in his orbit he’d push you too. If you could hang with him, he’d change the trajectory of your life. I know I’ve carried that with me, his gift to us.
There's a link to Sonic Editions -- these pictures are by Steven Parke, his in- house art director who has a book called Picturing Prince.
He says he wrote it to help a friend with his medical expenses.

I love this quote, Purple. It's something more of his fans need to hear, digest, and understand. I imagine myself inside your bedroom; oh, I imagine myself in your sky.

I know ... reflection isn't so much ur cup of tea, laurarichardson ... but ur daily dissing of people u don't know tells us so much more about u than about them ...
it's a beautiful article, well written by a beautiful soul ... steve parke is a nice guy, honest and humble. and he has so much love and respect for prince ... u can see it in his pictures and read it in every word he wrote about him ... he had the chance to work for prince and with him for 14 years for reasons ...
the only love there is is the love we make |

That's a profound statement. Everything we've heard testifies to the effect that Prince had on those who were "in his orbit." They were inspired, goaded as if by an electric shock, to do their best, to surpass supposedly real limits. Supposedly? Even real limits. Apollonia can't sing? No problem. I love her singing, as "unprofessional" as it may sound to others. Prince's inspiring others to work and do their best is part of his being a rock star like none other. Eric Clapton being knocked out of his deep blue funk after stumbling into the movie theater to see Purple Rain. I quit smoking hash after listening over and over to "This is not music... this is a trip" and realizing that the trip of life surpassed any other. Somewhere there's a choice quote from Wendy about Prince and his ability to bring out the best in those around him. "Notwithstanding his sociopathic tendencies, that was a real gift," she said, or something like that. It helps to hear from people who knew him to keep him human. (The further away you are from a great figure, the more their less attractive tendencies can melt away in the haze of greatness.) But for all his flaws—and as fans, we know that, here in this forum for example, some years it was like all we'd do is analyse and bemoan his flaws—he was a paragon of lusty engagement with life and in that he leaves most of us not sitting back on our asses, panting with admiration, but leaning in, pitching in, doing the work, maybe more and better work than we thought we could before getting nudged by him. |
