What insecurities about his race? Are you saying he didn't feel "black" enough and disbanded the Revolution for that reason?

Yes, because we know that

* disbanding the multi-racial Revolution in favor of another multi-racial band
* retaining a white member of the Revolution in the new band
* recording tracks that dissed an emerging black art form (hip hop)
* recording duets with white singers like Sheena Easton

and sundry other things made him "more black" in order to qualm his insecurities. rolleyes

I think it's a valid question.

So I'm asking - if you don't like it, that's fair enough, you voiced your opinion.

I'm not saying this is what I think, I'm saying it's a valid question - so before you attack, think.

So U think Prince was sitting around one day thinking:

"Hmm, I'm black so I must fire everyone in the band, with the exception of 3 white guys, and replace them all with people who have darker skin."

I think it *is* true that he wanted to take his sound in a new direction, less psychedelic pop and more funk/blues r&b and he assembled a band that would facilitate that best.

I wouldn't base that decision on racial insecurity however... I think it had more to do with his struggle to make the music he wants to make vs. what is commercial viable.

Dear oh dear.

Do you have to resort to personal attacks, it was a pretty simple question, which you actually expressed an opinion on, then you went and started throwing insults just because you disagreed with the subject matter (even though I have expressed I do not share this theory).

It's a shame you can't carry yourself with more decorum in a public forum.

I do normally.Topics like this get my back up that's all.as you stated you don't subscribe to this theory, it makes your choosing to post it more odd.

purely designed to agitate IMO.

If Prince has a black identiy fault, then y would he give 1 million 2 Spike Lees film, 'Malcom X'? and he has always given money 2 negro colleges.

He made the revolution, 2 kill gender and racial sterotypes.

confuse If you mean "agitate" as in rub you up the wrong way, WTF would I get out of agitating you?

The topic was brought up in a discussion, and I wanted to bring it into the fan forum here for other fans' opinions on this theory.

If you mean "agitate" as in creating conversation outside backslapping and fauning, then yes - I hoped it would do that.

Yes He did IMHO.His Sly&The Family Stone Revival was Nice&Good for a While but once that Flower Power took a hold of His Sound&Image He got labeled a "Oreo" for coasting on the Cross-Over& I think He knew He Had to do that to reach that Cross-Over Throne but wanted to get out of there because it wasn't all that it was cracked up to be.Once He got what He wanted out of It He Never went back&I doubt Seriously He Ever Will again.

I don't know the answer to the question but I've heard that EVERY revolution contains the seed of it's own destruction.

I think that may be possible, Prince definitely tried to 'black up' his act post-revolution; not exactly to positive results as we all know... It is not a needless, inflammatory question

This was meant as an off-the-cuff remark, but I speculate this pretty much sums up what was at play post-Parade.

sigh okay, THIS is why the revolution broke up:

1.W&L wanted to leave, Prince asked them to stay for the "parade" tour, they were going to leave anyway, they wanted to do their own thing.

2.Sheila E. is a better drummer than Bobby Z., Prince wanted her in his band

3.Let's be real, I love the rev., but there is NO way they coulda done SOTT, which is the direction Price wanted to take.

So basicly, W&L wanted to leave, Prince wanted. shiela to play for him.

and I ask you this; if Prince wanted to be 'blacker', why would he keep fink, the whitest guy out of all of Prince's bands?

Think people.

Maybe a little off the cuff whofarted but I thought it was well documented that Price was very insecure and that is why he has complete 100% control over everything.

i think you are a bit correct according to interviews with revolution members, Prince went through a get back to black phase that alienated revolition members... and you can see it in signothetimes and black album (Black album was his concrete attempt to get back to cutting edge black party music... he says it himself in the program to Lovesexy in his language...
