Prince once said in an interview: " I don't drive. I'm driven. "

Ha!

And now we know why...

But he did eventually get the license cuz there are plenty of instances of him doing it onscreen )UTCM and BBGW for instance) and George Lopez talks about how when P was on the show, I think in the red out fit where he shows off the guitar the race car driver won in a charity auction, Lopez mentions walking P out to his car and watching as P drove away.

he drove... he once crashed the T-Bird! and part of the 1985 Roling Stone interview takes place as they are driving around town. (and YES I knew this since that issue came out)

He used to be seen driving around pretty often...

I can verify he got his driver's license up until 2 years ago or so; my good friend's wife works at the Chanhassen D.M.V. and they made a special time for him to come after hours. She said he was very nice and came there with a beautiful young woman.

Uhhh...this story is from the early days when Bobby was working for Owen. Prince flunked his first test - when he was 17 or so. The way it worked back then was, you took classroom driver's ed (in high school), took a written test to get your learner's permit, then did "behind the wheel", then took your driving test. If you flunked it , you had to wait a couple weeks (so you could practice some more), then you could take it again.

Not passing the first time was not a big deal.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

He was certainly a 'driven' man in other ways, like his passion for music and such, but he drove himself in his own car/s all the time. lol I myself saw him driving to and from PP to his house on Galpin, and other places around Chanhassen, many times over the years and his being a leadfoot driver is legendary (at least around the Cities area).

Yep. I flunked my first test! And I think maybe even the second time too...can't remember.

I got a 100% on both parts of the written (One for a permit and the other for the actual).

On the driving test, I nailed it! The cop said it was the best test he had ever done! He said I lost 2 points for driving just a tad too slow! I did so well that a man was there to take his motorcycle test but he did not have anyone to drive the cop (to follow behind and follow honks to turn right or left) and the cop asked if I would do it!

Years later when I was in the ARMY my license had lapsed in all three states I had had one in. And I had to retake the written test! I BOOMED! It had a bunch of crap about the penalties for DWIs! I had to wait like a month to retake it... I passed that time.

The good ole days...when they actually had a driver's training class in high school. Not only with the driving simulators and video plus studying the manual, but the teacher would take you out on the road for physical driving. They even showed you how to change a tire, change oil, etc. Not to mention the infamous "Red Death" on the road videos... razz lol Nothing exists like that now.

I'm in the class of the first time flunkers also, took it a second time and passed, and have been driving ever since. biggrin

Yup, me too. I was 16, summer of 1977.

I nailed the written but failed the first driving test by pulling away from the curb at the testing site...and blowing through the STOP sign at the corner about 6 feet away (I didn't see it ARGH).

Took it 2 weeks later and passed. Damn, that was 40 years ago and before I knew who P was (didn't learn about him until a few months late I think.)

Didn't pass my first test either. Parked at the DMV and when the certifier came out to the car finally for the test, two cars parked so close on either side, I failed even pulling out of the parking space. I cried and cried and my Grandfather took me to a tiny town to take the test again and even though I knocked down two cones for the dreaded parallel parking test, I passed. razz lol

Hehe. Makes me think I should take a road test. I've passed my written one, oh, man, going on 10 years ago? No problem.
