(UPDATED: Celine Dion on the passing of Prince & late husband) Prince gave to Celine Dion: "With This Tear"

Here are a few videos regarding "With This Tear", the song Prince gave to Celine Dion.

This is the song:

This interview about the song was posted the week Prince passed away on "Celine Dion's Official YouTube Channel":

Here is Celine Dion's live performance of the song on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno:

https://m.youtube.com/wat...qmdQJge9N0

""With This Tear" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard or felt... Thank you for the honor”; Celine expressed these words of thanks to Prince on the 1992 album 'Celine Dion'.

The single "Beauty and the Beast" was released four months prior to the release of the album 'Celine Dion' and it became an instant hit. The word is that it’s after hearing this legendary movie theme on the radio that Prince wanted to write a song for Celine.

"With This Tear" is one of the last songs recorded for the album 'Celine Dion' stealing a spot on the album which was originally reserved for "Calling You" from the film 'Bagdad Cafe', which Celine regularly sang in concert at the time.

Celine recorded "With This Tear" at the Studio Morin Heights on René's 50th birthday, January 16, 1992."

Check out this video produced by Billboard entitled "Celine Dion Talks Late Husband & Prince at Billboard Music Awards 2016":

It is a beautiful song and the lyrics are so pretty. No one here talks about it much.

It was written for Jevetta Steele. You can hear a clip of the song on Carmen's album, in a segue where someone is flipping through radio stations. You can hear "Goldnigga", "Sexy MF", "Hit U In The Socket" and others, too. Celine re-recorded the song, and Walter Afanasieff produced it. The song originally dates to the beginning of 1992.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

With This Tear is the 13th track (twelfth song) on Celine Dion's 17th album (second English-language album) Celine Dion. The track was written by Prince, but was re-recorded by Dion's own musicians for release.

While specific recording dates are not known, initial tracking took place in January 1992 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during the same set of sessions that produced Born 2 B.R.E.E.D., In A Word Or 2, The Continental, Damn U, The Flow, 3 Chains O' Gold, Qualified and a revamped version of Sex). The song was initially intended for Jevetta Steele, but it is not known if she recorded a version of the track. It was submitted to Celine Dion soon afterwards, and she recorded her own version at some point between January and early March 1992, produced by Walter Afanasieff.

In 1993, a brief sample of With This Tear was used in a Segue from Carmen Electra's album Carmen Electra, as if heard while scanning through a radio dial (clips of Hit U In The Socket, In A Word Or 2, The Voice, Sexy M.F. and Goldnigga are also heard).

I would love if there's a Prince version of this in the vault somewhere.

I imagine that his version might just be piano and vocal.

This song gets me every time I listen to it. This is the only Celine Dion song that I own and the only reason I bought it is because of 'With This Tear'. Well, that and the fact that I really do like some other tracks on there. biggrin

So, written for Jevetta and given to Celine. Think I finally got it, by George! lol

It was when I heard this song and learned that Prince wrote it that I understood just how great of a songwriter he was. The fact that he could pen a song like this, and sound like it was literally written for a singer like Celine Dion...he was definitely in touch with things that most men simply are not.

The Tonight Show video isn't available at all, so you might wanna update that link, or wipe it out. It doesn't say "in your country". It looks as though it was pulled down across the board, unfortunately.
