. We just got confirmation that WB didn't have access to the original masters (of the outtakes) so basically it confirms my suspicion that a low quality copy was used from WB's own archives. And in the case of 'Our Destiny' I can even imagine them sourcing it from a cassette.
Regarding 1999 and SOTT: yes, I was referring to the CD masters.
Sorry where is the confirmation that WB didn't have access to the original masters? I've been looking but unable to find this info. Thanks.
A deduction. Consider "Purple Rain" was recorded under the second WB contract. It's 1984. So my guess is there is a clause of some sort that result in WB having at least professional copies of all masters of everything that was recorded for the project. Makes sense? Just a thought. Many orgers say that it was not Prince leaking all of the stuff. So it can only be Warner young executives or assistants fan.m.s post '88. That means they had access from inside WB.
ASIDE: If we really have to go digitial, I wish everything was digitally mastered as Superfunkycalifragisexy (30 Years).

Thing is a LABEL has to have a right to do anything with the work. Someone mentioned that WB should do what they did with Vanhalen and Madonna and just reamster the albums and the sound, well even that they can not just DO without permission and clearly PRINCE never gave in to this till 2014 when he handed this over to them in whatever form or just gave them the OK finally. He gave them access to what he wanted them to have, I think at this point WB wants to keep the Name and memory out there, we can not just depend on his "past" band members touring all over and doing that, at some point the Revolution are going to stop and not tour, the same with others but they need some kind of material out there to keep the word out the name out there. It's really been silent since his death with the exception of 4EVER which was a repackage of THe Hits and "moonbeam levels" tossed in for some sales, but that recording was the same as the bootleg that had been out for decades.

1) Would prince really go remaster purple rain and BRICKWALL? That jusg seems odd. If Prince remasters something I cannot see him in 2015 when we all know better to hit SELECT ALL and NORMALIZE. That seems insane. And is this a remaster or a remix.and remaster (as these days always seem to be even better, especially when done by the aetist and /or a n engineer. Of all albums that proves this I refer you to KISS Destroyer amd WAY even moreso the YES remix/remasters/even surround sound FU to the world that came out in the last few Because it a full on HOLY SHIT THIS IS AWESOME especially Close To The Even The Beatles gave us a preview by REMIXING and REMASTERING '1' and its my understanding we will get one more round of the albums again in that fasbion... Did Prince really just dick around with a little volume and compression because i just expect more from him.....
It's a remaster, it says so in the name. Nothing has been said about a remix first.
Did Prince brickwall it? I dunno, maybe. That's what he did with Crystal Ball, we haven't heard this one yet though.

If we knew who actually did the remaster, we'd probably have a better idea of what to expect. We know Prince oversaw it, but God help us if he let Joshua do it. |

2) The 180g vinyl. Does ANYONE know if this remaster was remastered for VINYL or is it a digital file stuck on an analog item (like transferring an mp3 to a cassette which.. why?) Anyone know?
.
3) This Picture Disc.. same day . But is it even the remaster?!.
.And
4) OFF TOPIC BUT IM DESPERATE AND NO ONE IN OTHER SECTIONS OF THE FORUMS: The REVOLUTION Tour... GA on the floor. There are VIP tix (also the same GA) but other than maybe early entry.. To GA ("ahem excuse me, no my fiance is right up front i just eent to the bar/bathroom) and a laminate I cant figure out what it is. There has to be Anyone know? (Im sorry but ive been aasking in all apropriate places, maybe someone in this thread knows Ty for humoring me and that im bad enough with the typing on a tablet but wow im om the phone. Site not mobile friendly. I hope this post isnt a disaster).
Thx to anyone with any answers.
I've read that the pic disc reissue will be an reissue (not sure if original master or the 2011 remaster) and the standard vinyl will be the new remaster. |

He was quoted as saying it's 'the same album, just state of the art sound' so a lot of peoples expectations were low I recall. |

Yes.
I also said that WB doesn't own COME and GOLD EXPERIENCE, and that Prince wore a wig.

Totally expected at this price point.
Can't wait for the 40th Anniversary 9CD/3BD set in a nice deluxe box that looks impressive displayed on the shelf...
Still buying THIS one in the meantime, of course.

If WB uses a cardboard thingie for a 'Deluxe' release then they are completely out of their minds.
They apparently do not know how to make stuff look attractive or how to motivate the estate to give access to masters.
They are so evil and disappointingly bad.
This PR reemaster is a nono before even receiving the discs and I am looking forward to a proper release 10 years or so from now. Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry. |

I like it so far. The Nick Cave remasters came in packages similar to this and they're gorgeous.
But why on earth are the discs just plain white? PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman! |

There is a rehearsal circulating of Prince teaching the song to the band. He might of course have come up with additional stuff while he was doing that. Prince was creative at all times. Can't you at least put a white surround? The booklet really looks like shit. What a bad layout, bad typo.
The whole product shot sucks. This is Purple Rain, at least take a creative angle on it. It deserves it. Those stupid evenly distributed CDsn the clinical white background... even the shadows are bad, this is badly lit. Not really saliva-inducing, the middle of the opened digipack is curved... Maybe it's a mockup.
Prince was a maniac about the details of his craftsmanship, and voilà. Where's Laura LiPuma, 4 crying out loud?

The package looks like a very cheap one, suitable for the "deals" section of the supermarket. I have very old Thunderball boots with better packaging (and, I'm afraid, better sound quality).
So what's the point in buying this from WB? Just the price and the concert DVD.
I have ordered it anyway, I wish "Father's song" is as good as I think (and its sound quality is good enough). |

It's about £20 for 3 CDs and a DVD, it's not exactly going to be packaged in a box that's a replica of Prince's arse, is it.
Despite my issues with non-first generation stuff being used, come on everybody, it's a no-brainer.

By the way, if you're in the UK, this is the best price I've found for the deluxe version with delivery included - £19.99, I've ordered from them before with no problems.

Those japanese CDs that tried to be like the LPs were pretty cool, posters and all. And those CD labels were gorgeous, I hope something similar will be done, with the LP and 12" labels on the CDs.
.
Like many, this picture makes me somewhat fearful, but it might look great in real life. Just like those Apple products mostly look better in real life than their marketing pics. (to me, anyway) Paisley Park is in your heart - Love Is Here! |
