I do this every year. The great New Power Soul album. Sure, it has flaws, like with Larry, but overall it is a fine album. All you others say Hell Yea!!

I don't think it's as bad as people say it is. It never was. That being said, there's a lot of cheesy junk on it. However, it redeems itself if only for "The One" which has to be one of his finest fuckin' moments of balladry. The bass, the vibe, the lyrics, the vocals. Could not be better.

Is this a set up? The hate is real for this album, lol. This album is one of my top ten favorite albums. Honestly, I think I play it more often than any other. Favorite tracks in order. 1- Push It Up 2- When U Love Somebody 3- Mad Sex 4- Freaks On This Side 5- Until U're In My Arms Again 6- New Power Soul 7- Come On 8- The One 9- Wasted Kisses 10- Funky Music 11- Shoo Bed Ooh

Its good, better than its reputation. Gets a bit boring in the middle. Its problem is that its not what most people want when they reach for a Prince album, where's the big exciting pop songs? I like it a lot these days though. [Edited 5/7/17 1:01am]

When I bought it back at the time I fucking hated it. Spent years on my shelf until I felt in love with Wasted Kisses and Freaks on this side. With Prince is always like that, you go back to his discography and rediscover a gem. Guess I will hear it again and see what else do I find.

It's a fun album. Not one of his best, but an enjoyable listen. It seems that the fans were always hoping for the next masterpiece from Prince so that anything that didn't fit the bill would get completely dismissed by many or they would like one or two songs and think the rest of it was complete crap. He deserved better, as did this album.

Well, yeah, if you like it when Prince makes love to himself, then yes, The One is great. [Edited 5/7/17 1:25am]

This album has some really cool things on it...I remember the song that got the most dislikes back in the day was "Push It Up"...If that track wasn't on the LP and replaced properly with "Wasted Kisses" instead of being a hidden song, more would've dug it. I'll also say this album was the last one where Prince wrote some DIRECT explicit lyrics...especially "Shoo-Bed-Ooh", which IMO is an underrated track. Exiles of the Nation
"Liquidation", the NEW 18th LP. Available everywhere now. https://youtube.com/chann...-ieACvEQMA

Like most of his 90's albums, there are 4-5 truly great tracks that have been lost to the general public: Mad Sex Come On Wasted Kisses The One ...all Grade A Prince An edited Prince 90's boxset would open some eyes.

NPS was the first time I really thought Prince was losing his edge in music The entire NPS power pak was pretty bad However I loved The One, Shoo-bed-oh and Wasted Kisses The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

I have to admit - I despised this album when it came out. Although I liked Come On and The One. Now I think it's better than I originally did, but I am still not a fan of those tunes with the chants (I don't like the way we can hear the background noises cut in and out - sounds cheesey). But rarely has Prince been so focused on one type of genre like he was on NPS... so love it or hate it, it's one of his more focused albums.
In recent years I've come to appreciate Wasted Kisses & Shoo-Bed-Ooh. While other tunes like Push It Up and When You Love Somebody are not as bad as I thought they were. But hey just because I personally didn't like the direction of an album (or anyone for that matter) doesn't mean it's a bad album. Since his passing I've been playing his entire discography on shuffle and no one can deny the depth of this man's vision. He was truly one of the greats and this album is a worthy part of his legacy.

New Power Soul has been documented to cause extreme drowsiness and buyer's remorse.

There were some clunkers on it (Push It Up and Freaks On This Side don't do much for me) but overall I love this album. The One, Come On, and Wasted Kisses are definite classics that would be held in higher regard if they had appeared on other albums; Shoo-Bed-ooh gets a lot of hate but I LOVE that ominous, melancholy, rumbling bassline; When U Love Somebody is great catchy fun, and Until U're In My Arms Again is a beautiful P ballad. The title track is a little generic but is an easy toe-tapper. Who else releases an album with half a dozen good-to-great songs and still has it ripped as garbage? Prince set a very high bar for himself.

Traveling Wilburys is easily one of the worst things I ever heard.

Don't like the party chant songs or him talking about his balls being round on When U Love Somebody but there is a few obvious gems on it. . Also the Come On single had a couple of good remixes and as mentioned The One remix is quality. . Until U're In My Arms Again is also special considering what's it's likely about.

I saw Prince at The Key Club in Hollywood when this release came out. Such great memories. Come On remixes are icing in the cake. This is a great CD! klick

Its a great album, very dark, very bass heavy and really party orientated. Prince wanted to capture the looser jam vibe that he had going in his aftershows at the time from what i'm told. It was underproduced too, When U Love Somebody, that song is raw and stripped down. Hans Buff said that one of the guys from the Hownheadz said to Prince "i'll pay you to let me re-mix it!". They were shocked at how raw Prince left it, but he wanted a certain vibe with that album.
Sadly the credits arent very detailed for the album but Mike Scott ansolutely tears that song up, that is him soloing. Mr Hayes added a lot of the key parts and Kirk did way more then he gets credited for. Kat Dyson was only on Come On and Newpower Soul.

My first Prince album, so it will always have a soft spot. Immediately liked 'Untill U're In My Arms Again', 'When U Love Somebody' and 'The One'. Two years later I became a massive fan and learned to appreciate the rest of the album 2. Nice to see it's getting some recognition these last years. Rainbow Children or Lovesexy it ain't, but it flows nicely, unlike something like Rave.
