Someone is getting their reality check. I wonder if they have the funds to cover it.

I know right? Man if I was advising them, I would tell them to just let it go, I mean shoot, the estate will get money from the sales anyway, and it is like 6 songs gone out of thousands they can release in the future. It's almost a non event in that respect. But who knows in these scenarios, ego gets in the way in situations like this all the time.

If the estate had any intelligence they'd just release Prince's original versions without additions now. Instead, they'll likely continue fighting among themselves and making tacky novelty items hardly anyone wants.

We've all listened to it and maybe even have it.

I have no strong opinion on the litigation end, other than to say that the recordings released on the anniversary of his death were the most healing a lot of us have had. A beautiful gesture and beautiful song. They could have handled it a lot better. And got money from the streaming end too if they are so hard up for cash.

Exactly, they are out there. To pay 1 million to stop something that is already out there is crazy as well. But like I said, ego, bad judgement seem to be ruling the estate. The one year mark should have had something very special from them, a missed opportunity they can never recapture.

Yeah deliverence is like a planet earth out take ... NOT worth a million bucks ... maybe the guy selling it will make a couple hundred bucks tops ... rubbish song .. the estate should let it go and focus on monetizing the WB years and maybe a solid post wb hits package

I don't care what others think the song Deliverance is really good.. heart woot!

However what is happening, outside, with the estate and others I tend to just ignore that.

It is becoming so irritating to read about, and.. I think they got money enough already.

I think there's no need to block the song, just release release release..

And no fights please. wink

it's probably not just about this EP for the estate, they want to go to court over this
to make it clear that they won't accept anyone doing similar releases.

but i wonder how many similar cases there could possibly be, since the whole credit
thing for these songs is pretty muddy -according to boxill anyway.

it'll be interesting to see what happens with this.

meanwhile, blocked in future or not, every prince fan already has these songs now.

I haven't got round to it yet - waaaaaah! cry cry lol lol

Was waiting on the outcome of this in truth. I prefer to pay for stuff if that option exists, and I missed the site going up before it was pulled.

Exactly. They are possibly trying to set a precedent.

the only way this case could set a citable precedent is if the case were to go to a court of appeals and was upheld. The first ruling, in any case, can not set precedent.

if there is an actual case and it is appealed then yes. but so far it was just a few hearings. not a full blown case.

i think the estate will lose in the end. unless there is a contract in the estate's possession or unless the songs are filed for copyright or publishing by Prince... if this guy has the most original source tape he owns it and may very well have full rights to it.

it can boil down to who pressed PLAY on the tape deck.

I wouldn't pay it. The music is out there already anyway...

Nice! JMO...I think this is what Prince would have wanted....everyone listening to his music, I doubt he'd care if the siblings make $$ off him.

Somebody gave it to them lol

Maybe they will get a cease and desist neutral

Would not be surprised if other radio stations start playing it.

Exactly, it is about copyright infringement and ownership. The court has ordered Ian to turn over the tapes which means he does not own them. If has copyrights on the songs all he has to do is produce the documentation. If any of you think he is going to turn the money over to the estate without being ordered to so you are dreaming.

In addtion, Prince already has licensing deals with WB and the estate has deals with UMG. So Ian may have to tangle with those companies as well as the estate.

Some of you do not realize that the estate needs to be income generating or everything will get sold off in a fire sale. Music could land in the hands of people who never get out to the public while the estate will have to generate income.

We do not need the Ian' s of the world putting out P's music and keeping the profits for himself. Next bootleggers will be setting up sites to openly sell their collections.

Then they all will get cease and desist letters. I love how the radio stations will play this but nothing from his last couple of CDs you know when the money would have went into his hands. eek

The estate is stating they do have a contract and that million is only a bond. The estate will get the money back.
