I love how she calls him a kid. Bet she was one of a very few people who could get away with that one. I imagine myself inside your bedroom; oh, I imagine myself in your sky.

Loved it! Like how she says "I was going to be cool..it's just Prince" then she met him and "cool went out the window.." LOL! I also liked how she said Prince "got it". She wrote him 13&14 page legal size papers about her life so he could garner what she was talking about (her life all the way from she was little) wonderful

The Voice album is still on heavy rotation to this day for me. Great to hear from Mavis. "You always get the dream that you deserve, from what you value the most" -Prince 2013

It's too bad that Prince didn't do the same and send her 13 or 14 pages about his early life. Man, what a read those would be!

Thank you for sharing this, Latin. I love Mavis Staples. This is a wonderful story and just that brief sample of her singing at the end makes it clear why her voice is inimitable. Prince's reverence for his elders says so much about who he was as a person. Those letters she wrote to P are worthy of publication. If she has not done so already, she should definitely write a memoir. Thanks again.

Loved some of The Voice CD promos that came out during her time. One called "Gospel Tracks" was killer.

Do you like both of her PP albums, Latin?

Prince took Mavis into Paisley and created with her some great music. She didnt have a gig happening and cos he admired her gospel and soul music he gave her career a jump start. Prince did the same with another mentor of his,George Clinton/Mr P Funk was out of a gig and had financial problems with the IRS so Prince put George on Paisley Park records. Prince loved Gospel and Funk music, they were his roots.
