We need BluRay. I think Warners could afford the the extra cost in mastering.
not everyone has a BLU RAY player
Sony re-released OF THE WALL last year along with a documentary. You can buy the dvd version or the bluray version of the set. |

For Blu Ray you need a high defintion source (either film or HD video). Syracuse was shot on video so no high defintion - releasing a Blu Ray version would be pointless becasue the resolution would be almost the same as DVD (upscaled and digitally corrected to try and acheive a better picture).
The rumored Controversy show that was shot to be included on the Second Coming project WAS shot on film and could be remastered into high defintion for release on Blu Ray. Only footage shot on film or HD video by Prince would benefit from a remastered Blu Ray release.

I wonder if in the end ...latter this year...WB is considering to release a SUPERbox Deluxe Ed. of PR with more outtakes.....demos/alternate takes and of course a DVD or Blueray version of the 1st AV 83 Performance ????
This would be so great 4 us fans....anyway PR deserve a release like this !!

the inclusion of a concert video (i.e. Syracuse) in a box set was basically a given.
So when I speculate about a potential realistic scenario that there will be further Purple Rain releases in the future based on standard industry practice to repackage and resell existing works, you accuse me of baseless speculation. But when YOU say the inclusion of Syracuse was a given, which is clearly speculation on your part, that is ok? YOU have no idea if Syracuse was intended to be included as of the deal in 2014. I would agree it was a highly likely scenario though. So perhaps you can concede that despite once again attacking someone (in this case me) for speculating, that I too was putting forward something that is a highly likely scenario?
The original 2014 deal didn't include video material. It was officially stated at the time. |

No really, depends on what is in the package. If they do that and just release what they put out in June, plus one extra disc and they're charging even more for it, then that's no good as they will obvioulsy trying to rinse us of more cash for that extra essential disc. If it's a set which includes plenty of extra stuff which isn't coming out in June and it has loads more outtakes from the era, then how is that a problem? [Edited 5/2/17 2:28am] RIP |

It obviously wasn't. Do you have any idea how difficult it would be to televise a concert live while it's being shot on film in that kind of setting? Not to mention, there's no apparent film artifacts on any of the video transfers.

Indeed. I couldn't give a hoot how many PR Deluxes come out eventually - just as long as any additional material doesn't conflict with previous configurations.
I'm really suprised at a few ppl on here who are turning their noses up on this initial release. Apart from the mis-leading statement regarding two live shows, this ain't a bad start, imo.

I don't know what it was or wasn't shot on but either way I'd imagine that they also have a separate audio source regardless of how the video was shot. This could be re-mastered and you could have a much better soundtrack on the Blu-Ray even if the picture wasn't much better. People seem to forget that Blu-Ray can have lossless audio. RIP |

So what is the point in re-releasing this live in bad audio / video quality ? I don't buy this is the only live that actually shot in its entirety from the PR tour. |

Yeah especially as bluegangsta corrected a very 'Prince' spelling of 'U' to 'You'.
Bluegangsta (Blue Gangster?) was obviously behind the botched retitling on the new Record Store Day Batman 12"s.

I've heard that all LA shows were filmed (on video not film) and most east coast shows (also video and not film) if I remember correctly I read somewhere that the Syracuse show was also shot on video and not on film because it was broadcast via satelite. I believe the Musicology soundcheck and show that was broadcast via satelite to American theaters was also on video and not film. |

With all the hype created by the album, the movie, the oscar, and the US tour in 1985, they'd had only shot the concerts on video ?
That would be very incredible if WB were so cheap on that.
.
Some suits at WB must have thought in 1985 that after the success of the movie on theaters, they could release a concert as a sequel, especially since the PR tour didn't come outside the US, and make additionnal money out of it.
.
It would be such a smart-less and illogical decision to shot concerts only on video, even in 1985; especially from a firm/ artist that revolutionized the music industry by being #1 in album, radio, singles and theaters at the same time. I have hard time to actually believe that. |
