I suppose anything you personally don't like is a money grab? If you can't see how people would be happy about it, then might as well stop complaining over and over again online about it

I hadn't posted on the Org for 6 years until this thread started and pulled me back in because it was talking about the new release and the MUSIC!
SNIP
clip which is clearly available now on several sites such as CNN and surely comes under fair use policy of the DCMA.
Warner Bros have been terrible in their communication with their silence and backtracking on their press release yet a user here gives the only updates we have seen and is banned!
I guess I won't post here for another 6 years as nothing has changed.

I know I'm in the minority here, but as much as I love 17 Days (and I probably am a Prince fan today because that b-side, on the back of the first Prince record I bought, let me know that Prince's extras were as good as everybody else's best)--I've never felt anything was missing from it, and I've never been able to work up any great interest in the possibility of an extended version. Now, the fact that Quest has a file with that name... might mean something. But it might not. Unless I eventually have a file with that name--it don't mean a thing to me. |

I can understand that, but I felt the same about She's Always In My Hair (here in the UK, only the 7" version was available). But when I finally got the 12", it became the definitive. I don't think many of us would just want an 'extended beats' type version, but a full version is a very different thing.
In regards to 17 Days, although we have always thought there is a longer version, I think WB just legitimised it. The listing for 17 Days on the PR Deluxe is clearly listed as 7" edit. So therefore, there must be a full verion.

At the very least, it means that it EXISTS. Ive heard t and others report about it over the years but nothing seemed tangble and could have been bullshitting, who knew? But now that it is definitive that the posibility of something so great exists just adds something to the world regarding this thing of ours. "Climb in my fur." |

Hey, I get it--probably it exists (the 7'' edit description Squirrel Meat cited just adds to the evidence). Quest probably doesn't just have a mislabeled file--heck, he might have even gotten it from P--but until I have it myself, I'm not gonna think about it that much. Actually, that's not true--until I hear that some of you guys have it, I'm not gonna think about it that much. If a bunch of orgers come on here, saying they've got it, that it's out--yeah, I'll be on it instantly. The second I hear it leaks, I'll be googling and contacting anyone I think might help. I'm just saving my vault fantasizing for lots of other stuff until it actually shows up. And that's even if everyone reports it is just an "extended beats" version, not the glorious thing so many people seem to expect. |

It is interesting how different the world of the Prince forum and Facebook are now. Links to anything realeased are made avilable on Facebook within minutes and continue to be shared but obviously on forums like this they are not.
Is it possible to explain why Youtube are immune from these issues by the Safe Harbour laws, but Prince.org are not? It's not a criticism of the Org, I just assume that better lawyers buy you more rights.
Here's the thing (I assume, not being a mod)--but when people get dinged on Facebook and Youtube for copyright, it's individual account holders that get gotten, and that person can make the choice to risk their own account. But a post here puts the entire forum at risk, and, quite honestly, we as individuals don't have the right to make the choice to risk things for everyone. I'm not sure why this is so confusing to everyone that somebody gets all up in arms about it every month or two, but it's really not that complicated. Sure, I'd like it if Prince/Prince's estate/Prince's record company had a different approach to the issue, but unless they decide officially that they do, we need to be sensible and keep the forum safe.
Whilst I understand your point, it is a little complicated. You are stating that when Facebook or Youtube users upload a Prince video, Facebook and Youtube are not responsible for the upload, the individual users are. However, when Prince.Org users upload a Prince video, Prince.Org are responisble. I am not criticising either policy, but it needs to be consistent. Are the org currently operating under different laws to the rest of the world or is it simply that in the USA your rights are determined by your wealth and your access to lawyers?
Or are you saying that WB have different policies for Facebook, Youtube and the Org?

If this is authentic and not the fan made one, how is it he has it now. Did the collector-leggers or those in the estate who have it, just give it to him? Questlove insists its real and I think he's had it for a while. . The plot thickens with Mathieu Bitton saying on Twitter 'the master was not at WB and wasn't found anywhere. 7.21 version was sent back to Prince in June 87.' . |

It's always boggled my mind that the 7" version was on the 12" single. If there's an extended version out there somewhere, I'd wager that Prince wasn't particularly fond of it. PRINCE: the only man who could wear high heels and makeup and STILL steal your woman! |

Hi there, I am getting strong signals that Warner is definitely listening to the comments posted here and elsewhere online. They ARE 100% aware of the expectations based on previous statements. I am convinced they are working hard getting the First Avenue 1983 show up to standards for release.
Unfortunately, it won’t be in time for the announced June 23rd release, but that was the original plan.
It's not someone’s deliberate choice or fault, it's just a matter of how things are, production-wise.
[Snip - luv4u]
. Thanks, Sifi. . I can understand that remastering the First Avenue show takes longer than predicted. . What I absolutely cannot understand though is how come such an important release as this Purple Rain Deluxe set come out with a DVD in 2017 and not with a BluRay! I know that the Syracuse show wasn't recorded in HD, but I'm dreading to see and hear a PAL DVD with the 4% speed up. Even if the soundtrack is pitchshifted back to normal key, the tempo would still be 4% faster and these artifacts make me practically unable to enjoy the music. (If it comes out only on NTSC, then picture quality will suffer a bit.) . C'mon, Warners, it's 2017. We need a BluRay. Don't go so cheap on this one! . And don't even get me started on not having 24bit/96kHz versions included in the set. That is standard practice these days for a lot of deluxe editions, such as Steve Wilson's Jethro Tull and other remixes. .
Oh yeah, and why on Earth did they have to mess with the artwork and rotate the main photo? .
[Edited 4/29/17 2:59am]
This box is not aimed at the hardcore fans and collectors. I sure hope an incredible one goes out in a few years.
On, and the artwork, what a missed opportunity. Doesn't make any sense to me.

There being a 17 Days official long version was confirmed a few years ago.
It's a no-brainer even getting this reissue considering how inexpensive it is. Plus future expanded reissues will be reliant on the sales figures of this one - in other words, in other words, don't be a dick, buy it, and we'll see more of these releases. |

Remastered never means re-recorded. ELO's Jeff Lynne set to release a 1-disk greatest hits type package. His manager had encouraged him to rerecord 2 or 3 of the songs. He ended up re-recorded the whole disk of songs. Amazingly, they sound exactly, but clearer, like the originals. It's pretty amazing, considering the vocoder and other FX on vocals they used back in the day.
A re-master is simply going back to the mastering process, and retweaking it (for lack of a better word). You pull out the master tapes, clean them up, and go through the mastering process again. That's a really, really layman way of putting it. I'm sure an audiophile on here is going to elaborate on that. So no, Prince did not re-record anything.
And thank God, frankly. Prince isn't one to revisit the past like that, so I cannot see him sitting down and pulling out the Linn, and reconfiguring everything like 1983 and doing it all again. I want those tracks and those tapes, cleared up a bit as much as possible without blasting out the board, and just have a better take on the songs. It pays to remaster stuff these days, because folks will buy it, and there is so much technology at our fingertips with better speakers, better headphones, etc to really experience that stuff in a whole new way.
Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking. |
