Obviously sound quality and packaging will be the final decider on this but I would say this is a good release.
The issue is clearly that Warners told us we would be getting more and therefore set our expectations and Many of us are now disappointed In the Rolling Stone article it said... When we make any of Prince’s music available to fans - from the hits to unreleased gems - we are committed to upholding Prince’s high creative standards and we know fans will be thrilled when they hear these albums and see these films," Warner Bros. Records CEO Cameron Strang said in a statement. You don't get a more senior source than that to quote! He said albumS and filmS plural (yes albums could mean Purple Rain itself). [Edited 4/28/17 11:26am] 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

And for those folks saying THIS package is what Prince delivered to Warners I say NO WAY. I would be willing to lay money on the Prince version of PR remastered as having, at most, just one or two unreleased songs (one being Electric Intercourse as he played it live in 2014). I truly believe it would have been 2 X CDs with CD 2 being closer to the single edits b sides and 12 inch edits along with one or two unreleased. There is no way Prince would have included We Can Fuck on there. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' Mayte 21st April 2016 = the saddest quote I have ever read! RIP Prince and thanks for everything.

I would have been satisfied with this set as-is, if it included the 2nd concert video, which was originally announced. That video was widely assumed to be First Avenue 1983, which is so fascinating from a historical perspective, where we can see the actual recording of several songs that have been part of our lives for decades. Such a missed opportunity that they wouldn't include it as part of the set.
And yeah, I'm bummed with the lack of a 2nd disc of unreleased tracks. I always dreamed of hearing the version of When Doves Cry with bass. But I'm more disappointed by the lack of the 2nd video. [Edited 4/28/17 11:40am]

Just finished listening to the studio version of Electric Intercourse. Something that I've waited a long time for. I am always happy to hear something from Prince that I've never heard before. I can why he chose TBO over this track for inclusion. It would have made a great B side.

I would not be so sure about that I am sure there was something in the agreement that gave him final say and many people said he was not so hard core JW as he had been.
Think about songs like Exlier. He also appeared to be dating a few young ladies so I do not buy that no sex and no cursing stuff.

I disagree I think it is a fitting box set and I am looking forward to buying it. They did alright by me

He even swore on Funknroll so I agree there was a relaxing of the JW side. 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.' So awesome and fascinating to hear this track, infact just to finally hear anything that hasnt been heard b4 from P. Kinda makes me feel like a thief who broke in2 the vault, and Im not ashamed. And while I prefer the live version of EI , this one is cool too in is own unique way. To me it sounds like an 80s video game version of the live performance. Now bring on Fathers Song!

Even when he sang Electric Intercourse in 2014 he didn't say 'intercourse' so no way he'd sign off on We Can Fuck. .

Still looking forward to the release, but also slightly disappointed with what is being delivered compared to what they were saying. Not two albums of unreleased material and not 2 DVD's. when you're speaking of two albums, one can imagine people expect two cd's. And when you promise 2 dvd's/concertmovies, deliver 2 DVD's/concertmovies. Just be straight with people, that'll be rewarded in the end. Don't promise things you can't live up to. It almost looks like politics. Produced, Arranged, Composed & Performed by PRINCE

They wouldn't be remastering the VHS, it was shot on film. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

not very likely. It was broadcast live was it not? It sure looked like video to me... it can be (if they have the original tapes and put some $$$ in it) made to look somewhat better and even all new "mix" the should have kept all the original tapes. but again that would cost them money. The second CD of goodies alone makes this collection worth every penny. In spite of the fact that I have plenty of amazing boots, this is soooo much better.

Way more than before? Or way more than the studio version? I love this studio version. It strikes curious poses, if you know what I mean. Anyway - good to have a studio version we didn't even know existed. The wooh is on the one!

I'm loving EI and really looking forward to the rest of the vault disc. But something just dawned on me this evening. It's nearly two months until this comes out! I'm impatient already. RIP

Nobody ever shot a professional programme on VHS. That just ended up as the preferred home movie format before DVD was invented. Betamax from Sonybwas a far superior format but lost the format war (primarily because unit costs of VHS tapes was lower and so more films were put out on VHS for home consumption (and in particular porn). Betamax evolved into a professional format called Betacam. It is almost certain Syracuse would have been shot on Betacam although there were other pro video format back then too. It definitely wasn't shot on film, you can tell that by watching it. [Edited 4/28/17 14:32pm] 'I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He's with our son now.'
