I love it! As others have said, heavy 1999-era sound here with the synths and Linn drum machine.
I don't think it sounds unfinished. While going for huge production sometimes, other times Prince was super minimalistic. There's like four tracks on Sign O The Times and it doesn't sound unfinished.

It took one listen to reset my ears from the previous versions I have heard (my favourite rendition is actually Birmingham 2014, and I've listened to that dozens of times).

Then I switched to the good headphones and yes - this is amazing. If the vault can provide us with genuine unheard treasures like this, then although things will never be the same after 2016, we still have something to look forward to.

Are my purple suspicions correct that there's an awkward edit (or censorship) around 1:30? Right after some steamy aspirations? Or perhaps just slightly off tempo when live-play programming the Linn?

I think there might be something, the same double beat appears around 1:06 though, slightly less awkwardly. Let's not start calling things censorship at this early stage without proof or we'll never hear the end of it.

It's pretty insane that this has managed to get this far without a new press release that specified the release date and announced the tracklist officially. A dedicated website to capture email addresses for a mailing list wouldn't have hurt, either. Something... Anything!

If they wanted to do Beyonce style guerrila tactics they should have just dropped the full digital release out of nowhere, with the physical to follow.

I don't doubt that they'll do some promotion, but letting this go live without officially announcing any info and then just waiting for us to find it, is pretty bizarre.

Not bizarre more like being cheap. I think they know Prince has a loyat fanbase and do not feel they need to spead a lot of money promoting the product. Prince sold 7.7 millions songs last year. More than anyone WB knows they can make a fourtune without having to spend much money.

Exactly how much do you think a tweet would cost?

Electric Intercourse is now available to stream on Apple Music in the US.

It's pretty good. It doesn't hold a candle to the classic live version, and I was a bit bewildered when I first heard it. It sounds like a demo, not like a studio version Prince was prepared to release. His vocals on it are a bit strange at times, they don't have the same gut-wrenching passion from the live track. Still a nice track to have. I hope we get the live version in pristine quality soon. Is there a version in excellent quality of the live track circulating? The versions I've heard have all been a bit muddy. Not asking for links or anything, just to know if it is indeed circulating.

There is a better song embedded in this track, if it could be disentagled by removing some of the layered vocals during certain portions of it. There seems to be buried underneath those a slightly less forceful run-through of the entire track as we're used to from the rehearsals and live show.

.

The mix is also a little too trebly/chambery, giving it a slightly unpolished feel (although its crisper and easier to hear the finer points than in most of his 80s properly mastered material).

.

I have a contrary theory that our revered August 3, 1983 live take is so hastily rehearsed, and lifelessly performed by the Revolutionaries, that in the effort to imitate the key points of this primarily studio-oriented track, an even better result unintentionally reached (and also greatly bolstered for by the raw emotive energy of his vocals during the actual performance). I presume this song was recorded earlier in the year (even if he 'enhanced' it a bit during the canon-date September 1983 Sunset Sound sessions, perhaps when many of these gratuitous vocal overdubs were added).

.

I would draw a very loose parallel to the studio version of 'Screams of Passion versus its 1985 PR Tour rehearsal/soundcheck of 'Screams of Passion' counterpart, or the studio vs one-off live version of 'Another Lonely Christmas'.

i know, right? people should just give the studio version a bit of time.
we've all been listening to the other version for two decades. it's just
a different version of the song.

a few months from now 90% of the people who dislike it now will be
starting threads singing it's praises. happens all the time.

Plus, we will get the live one on the dvd live show no doubt. The studio fits right in with the PR-era project. And having no studio version would have folks pissed.

There are often good reasons a song is placed into the vault, or relegated to a B-side. It's fantastic in many ways, and a disappointment in others. But our lives have been enriched by having finally heard it. It deservedly occupies the same league as some of his best regarded outtake material.

I just purchased Electric Intercourse on Itunes USA.

I gotta say the studio version is mesmerising! I hear a little bit of The Beautiful Ones in there at the beginning and the pulsating rythym is intoxicating. I know there are people out there who love the other versions out there that we've heard over the years but I personally dig this one. Well worth the 33 year wait to hear a studio version!

Them drums. Lawd. The linn, the piano, the synths. This is Anton Ego experience

Y'all did see Ratatouille? hearing the synths and drums like this is like when Ego takes his first bite of the soup and is transported (in his mind) to that 8 year old child and his mama fixed that dish to him.

Thats what happens each time I play this.

This brings (some) balance to the purple force.

Syracuse is 120 minutes

8/3/83 is 70 minutes or so with a long intro and the speech in the middle.

You could get that on one disc with some edits to 8/3/83.

Titanic is 194 minutes on 1 disc. There are some other long films on 1 disc.

Just got it through iTunes in the US. The quality of the source / master sounds good to me. It's different from the live version, but I love it!

.

Very surreal and amazing to have material appearing -- allbeit slowly -- from the vault.

.

Between this and the Deliverance EP, I am re-convinced all over again of Prince's genius, and that he has many, many treasures yet to be heard by us.

I'm glad the studio version has a falsetto vocal, as I've always preferred the falsetto rehearsal to the others. And what an interesting vocal! Lots of weird extended vibrato, which is different for him and very cool. It takes a few spins to get used to, but how exciting! When the beat kicks in, I instantly thought of Bria's Another Boy.

"God" is full of that, actually. It's why I never cared for it.

The fact that you've listened to Bria enough to reference anything on there worries me. LOL
