I remember reading about this charitable event at the time it took place. At the time, I was deeply immersed (read: obsessed) with his music for two years and had the utmost admiration for Prince as musician, singer and songwriter, but I hadn't yet warmed up to the guy or cared who he was offstage. It was THIS concert that made me really pay atention to him as a man--with no mic or instrument in his hand. This marked the point where I really started to appreciate and love him not as a singer or star, but as a person. He was worth it. | |
