I just wonder what i'd be like to leave Prince as a fan, or at least cool down a bit; i listen mostly to Prince music or artists he worked with; sometimes i wonder why i'm so fanatic; and why i let myself being tied down by his music. I should widen my horizon as a music listener.

Prince is my favourite artist, but if I only ever listened to him and related artists, I would be a freak, and I'd be missing out on so much more!!

i alwyas say & think the day 1 of my Favorite P songs doesn't give me chills would b the day that i move on. it hasn't happened so far & what else is there after P???

I've seen many come and go...I will remain LOYAL to my culture and save there seats if they wanna come back...

I listen to his inspirations. JB, Sly, Funkadelic, Hendrix etc. Same with my other main man MJ, i listen to his inspirations too JB, Sly, Jackie wilson, All The Motown acts.

There isn't much happening now that i find interesting to be honest.I got enough to be going on with all those quality artists.

I like all kinds of music and many different artists...but that doesn't make me like Prince any less, actually I think it only makes me appreciate him more.

I have actually left Prince's music a couple of times and came back. There has never been a time when Prince was all I listened to. I have been 'old school' since I was eight years old and right now there is a lot of music I prefer to listen to. It comes in ebbs and flows. When he makes something new and exciting, I'll get that rush again.

I've loved Prince and his music for a long, looong time. But I once took a self-imposed "break" from him and his music for a good many years (like, almost a decade.. which is a bit extreme for most folks, I know , but my point is that during that time I explored many other artists and other types of music and I believe that helped me to appreciate Prince's music all the more when I returned to it/him again.

It seems to me that some fans - usually the really hardcore ones, and I'm not limiting this observation to only Prince fans, either - mistakenly feel that by listening to other music and other artists somehow diminishes their devotion to Prince, or that it means they aren't "hardcore" enough, which simply isn't so.

Prince is a person who appreciates and loves music - ALL music, and all types and genres. He is constantly feeding his personal love of music and widening his scope of musical awareness by being open to EVERYTHING. If you widen your own musical horizons and listen to a wide variety of music besides just Prince, you will probably gain a greater understanding of music in general, of yourself, and of Prince and where he is coming from with his own music.

There is so much wonderful music to experience out there. Don't limit yourself. Doing so doesn't mean you don't love Prince the best.

current pop music is pretty lame but there are tons of indie acts and lesser known bands that are just incredible! Prince will always be in my player...right beside radiohead, u2, ladytron, stevie (wonder and nicks)...the list goes on. It's fun to go through P withdrawal for a few weeks and then come back for a fresh hit.

i think i must of got prince burnout back in the late 80's because i left and explored other types of music...and i forgot who said this in an earlier post, but now that i've come back his music sounds so much better...i was a hardcore fan when i was in highschool,all i would play was prince, for you, dirty mind, controversy and 1999. i think by the time purple rain hit,i was starting to get burnout and sure enough around the world was the last prince album i bought. but now i'm starting my collection again (cd's of course) right now i have: prince, dirty mind, 1999, purple rain, the times. its' good 2 b back!!!

This happens to all hardcore fans at one point or another, I remember being a HUGE Bowie fan and having the burnout thing happening... I moved on and now I listen to so much more that I would never have considered before (not that I still don't love the Duke). I think it's best to expand ur horizons , don't force it and don't forget your purple roots!

I have the "advantage" of a musical perspective because of my age. I am the same age as Prince. I grew up in the 60's and was in high school in the 70's. There was a time in my life when there was no such thing as Prince music, and I didn't discover his music until the late 80's anyway. I played classical music at school in orchestra, band music in band, choir music in choir, heard gospel and jazz at home. Listened to pop,rock,Motown,James Brown,funk,soul,disco, R&B,folk,you name it.
I guess I just don't understand how people can limit themselves musically to one artist who they convince themselves is the sole representative of the aural/sonic arts. To me that is the epitome of ignorance. Music has a history. Do they think Prince never listened to anybody else during his formative years, before he became Prince as we know him today?
Sorry to burst your bubbles, but Prince didn't inventpop, rock and roll, nor funk. He's done marvellous and innovative things with it for sure, but it existed before his fame.
I encourage you, by all means, to listen to other music. It's not advantageous to limit oneself musically.

Iam also the same age as Prince, and I have attended many different concerts of every type of music since I was 11.One of my first concerts was Buddy Miles.

Of all the concerts I have attended, none of them have ever topped a Prince concert, Not the Stones, Paul Mccartney, David Bowie, anyone.

I do listen to other musicians, but I always come back to Prince. His music is orgasm music.

Jeez Louise folks! There's a WORLD of music out there!

To be honest, my Prince fixation has cooled considerably over the last several years. I have come to terms with the fact that, while he remains the most talented musician on the planet, and while much of his music is still exciting, he hit his creative apex 15 years ago. Facts are facts.

But I owe a tremendous debt to Prince as well. The complexity and adventurousness of his music prepared me to fully appreciate his influences -- Sly, Stevie, Jimi, Miles, Jone, etc. His music also fostered my appreciation of jazz, which is now my music of choice. I enjoy listening to the new jacks who are trying to follow his path. I'm also revisiting many artists that I blew off earlier: U2, Nirvana, etc. There are other forms of new music waiting to be appreciated too: downtempo, acid jazz, electro-jazz, etc. Finally, my other love, hip-hop, remains in place, even though the genre is mostly dead.

Yet and still, Prince has been the primary influence on my musical tastes, and his work has affected my world view, so I will always treasure his music, all of it, good and bad, for what it is.
