I have a friend that is a huge fan of George Harrison but never cared for Prince. When she saw this video she sent me a facebook message saying: Now I totally understand why you are so crazy about Prince.

The look on Dhani´s face watching him play...

Tom Petty couldn't help but crack a smile. Prince was cracking them up.

I'm a recent fan compared to a lot of orgers. I wasn't in his "target" group. I was born in 1956. This song is my favorite from George Harrison. So when I saw Prince killing it on his guitar at the RRHF, I became an instant fan. Each time I looked at the video, I shivered. His playing and the way he made the song kind of all his own mesmerized me. He brought it to another level for me. But since last April 21st, I get teary-eyed each time. Same thing happens when I listen to other pieces of his.
I am here! Where R U?! Gotta broken heart again...

To give some background to the set Prince was not due to play in the tribute act that evening however he happened to be present because he was at his own award ceremony, I think he was collecting can't remember exactly anyhow he got involved in the most Princely way and the outcome is mind blowing as we can all see, Best of all is the reaction by the other musicians!! So it wasn't Pre subscribed, in essence he jacked the party and owned it!!

Was amazes me about this performance is that all the other rock legends are trying to do an authentic pre rehearsed performance, meticously not trying to put in a wrong note and concentrating so hard (especially Petty) that they look so rigid!!

Then Prince comes on and the music simply flows out of him, totally organic and effortless. Astonishing as he hardly knew the song and didn't rehearse fully with them

I also re-watched the clip this morning and it just made me smile.

Dhani's smile is infectious and Prince's side eye and smile to (presumably) Tom Petty at the (again I'm guessing as it's slightly out of shot) "go on, go on" moment that Tom has mentioned just makes me grin from ear to ear.

And then the end, the guitar throw, the slightly unsure glance "what now?" then the strut off stage.

Awesome. cool

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

This one is great. After many years of rewoking it, he's able to play his original take note for note, and adds the maturity to it. Same message, deeper and deeper.

I'm still baffled at how he always believed in the song through the years. I mean, it's easy to mock Purple Rain as the mother of all ballads. But the fact that they are so little good covers out there is testament.

This performance is the third, maybe second, maybe THE best version of PR. He was FEELIN it. Like he had just created it.
