I would appreciate your thoughts on this. I've been a P fan a long time and have gone through the ups and downs of this journey. There are many Prince songs that I am not overly fond of and more than a few that I deem average and often do not listen to over and over again.

That said, I can always find something in every song that I consider to be a touch of genius. Whether it be the lyrics, the message, the horns, the drums, the pitch, the melody, the sheer audacity etc etc..... Sometimes it is just one thing, often it is a number of things.......

Even the notoriously "challenging" songs like Jughead there is something that stops and make me appreciate his artistry - in this example it would be the dialogue at the end of the song condemning managers and I always have had a soft spot for the P rap "Don't worry if you're looking silly....."

I'm interested if any of my fellow orgers feel the same. OR if there are songs that you feel have no redeeming features of Genius, can other orgers see / feel something different in these songs?

I agree, not every track is genius, but 99.9% of them have something genius about it. Usually a really bad song will have some redeeming feature, whether a lyric or some bit of playing. For example Boytrouble has a great bass line running through it. Everybody loves me has some great rockabilly organ and the Drumlines on Arrogance and the Flow are slamming. So yeah!

I agree, I hear his entire catalogue the same way.

I had to look really hard in the song " Shut this Down".

But then I realised that this was a guy in his mid 50s nailing a song that if Zayn Malik or Drake had written and sang would have been a Number 1 all around the world.

It's not to my taste and as an artist he may not be relevant to the youngsters, but I'll be damned if they are not listening to his influence and genius through others every day!
