Roadhouse Garden

So I've been wondering about this rumoured recording.

I have seen many many posts on here regarding track listings for various shelved projects - Dream Factory, Camille etc. But to the best of my knowledge there is no such information on Roadhouse Garden.

Is this just a made-up title (a la Purple Rain : The Truth !) or was it a real project with songs recorded.

Anyone any info out there?

Roadhouse Garden is indeed a real unreleased album.
It's a collection of Prince And The Revolution outtakes
that was compiled in 1998. It's also the reason why there
are no 'Revolution' tracks on Crystal Ball, as Prince
was saving them for Roadhouse Garden. The exact tracklist
isn't known, but Prince has mentioned the titles of a few
tracks that would be included on the album...

Roadhouse Garden
Splash
Witness 4 The Prosecution
All My Dreams

(I think there were a couple more confirmed as well)

There's also a live version in circulation, coupled with 'Our Destiny'. You can hardly hear anything on the version I've got, though.

Do you know where it was recorded, Boris? First Avenue?

I would have thought An Honest Man or Make Your Mama Happy or Dream Factory would all be considered Prince w/The Revolution tracks.

I believe the circulating versions af this come from
the last rehearsal before the June 7th First Avenue
concert.

That's how Prince put it.
But there are indeed tracks on Crystal Ball that feature
The Revolution as musicians. What I think Prince was
refering to was tracks that prominently feature The
Revolution, particularly Wendy & Lisa, or tracks that
were co-written with the band.

Roadhoulse Garden and Our destiny were both rehearsed and subsequently played live at the June 7th 1984 birthday gig (first avenue Minneapolis). The recordings of at least two rehearsals and the actual concert circulate.

These tunes were played live along with all day,all night ,possessed, irresistable bitch, erotic city and more at the 6/7/84 bithday. An amazing set list Prince performed with awesome music and vocals.

This is on a boot called BIRTHDAY PARTYING, but is incomplete.

I have the mp3 of the "our destiny/roadhouse garden". The sound is poor but RG is great. I remember hearing it for the first time and feeling the smile grow on my face. This sounds so much like the revolution : innovative, nice hook/melody, funky wendy's guitar... Great song. Release it!!

Thanks guys and gals.

Still seems like one of P's more mysterious recordings - little discussed and (apparently) 6 or less named tracks for it known about.

Wonder why this one has been kept so well under wraps. I would have thought that it being Revolution material would have made it one of the most speculated over unreleased projects.

Or maybe thats just me!

Various information about Roadhouse Garden gathered from the 'net:

Another project involving the vault is called "Roadhouse Garden". It's a collection of songs recorded by Prince when he was with The Revolution, and includes "Splash", "All My Dreams" and "In a Dark Room with No Light" . It was announced that it would be released sometime in 1999. However when questioned about the status of the album by a fan on his web site, he stated that it depended on the involvement of Wendy & Lisa. They responded on their web site that they haven't been approached to work with him. So at this point, the release of "Roadhouse Garden" is uncertain.

Interview with Kurt Loder (excerpt):

Loder: There's been some talk of some old tracks with The Revolution, your previous band, your old band, coming out as an album called "Roadhouse Garden." Is that possibly, maybe, going to happen?

The Artist: We did three tracks for the record, meaning I went in and finished them, and then I put "Roadhouse Garden" on the backburner, so nothing's really happening with it.

From SonicNet March 1999:

SonicNet: Can you tell us when we'll see the release of Roadhouse Garden? Please describe the sound and vibe of the material on the album. Can you reveal some of the songs to be included?

The Artist: Eye have been allowing 4 the run of Girl Bros. [the 1998 album by Revolution members Wendy & Lisa] b4 the release of the Garden record. It has songs on it that feature The Revolution in a front role, as a band; where songs on Crystal Ball were more recent "bootlegs" with various other musicians. Some song titles include: "Splash," "All My Dreams" and "In a Dark Room with No Light." The beauty of r ownership of the master tapes will b felt when one hears the REMIXED newly digitized versions of these classic REVOLUTION songs. A quick sound comparison of 1999: The New Master and the older version strikes at the very heart of the issue of The Creator of the music being the one who dictates its path. This is in accordance with UNIVERSAL LAW.

Interview with Love4OneAnother:

L4OA: what is the status of Roadhouse Garden?

O)+>: Roadhouse Garden got sidelined 4 a sec but it will take at the most – 3 weex 2 finish..
Most of the trax were cool 2 begin with
They just needed minimal production and a mix

L4OA: Any titles – or is it a surprise? smile

O)+>: Some titles include..."Witness 4 the Prosecution”...and..."SPLASH” which was one of my favorites
All the songs that Wendy and Lisa sang on were left off...of the Crystal Ball package 2 save 4 a Revolution album
