Hello,

This is my first post... I was at Paisley this weekend and they are selling the 'Celebration' book there as well. All of the books can be bought directly on site (even that Celebration one)... Until they run out.

They said that they are catching up on shipping the book orders. They were overwhelmed with the amount of orders.

YES PLEASE. Especially the Paisley Park one. My hope is the PP book has photos from areas that haven't (or rarely) been seen before. Do a search for Paisley Park and you almost always get pics of the atrium and hallway, etc.

My order from over a week ago hadnt been shipped so I just picked them up in person. After checking the books out, I have to say that the guitar, fashion, and Paisley Park ones are my favorites. There arent a lot of 'new' photos of Prince but there are a few photos of him scattered throughout each book. Each book has approx 100 pages of material but most of it is historical / archive in nature. I didnt see any new undislosed areas of Paisley Park in the books. I did see a lot of clothes and guitars that I hadnt seen before...

Even though the Celebration book is not my favorite out of the set, it has some interesting tidbits (like screenshots of Prince's 1st, 2nd and 3rd tweets on twitter and his 1st selfie). It also has photos of items presented in previous Celebration events that are most likely still at Paisley but havent been brought into the museum rotation yet (like motorcycles, guitars, outfits, cars, etc). For me, this book gave me a better appreciation for Paisley Park being a museum and as continuation of 'Celebration'. I'm glad I purchased all of the books.

I would like to have the Celebration book. If anyone visits PP anytime soon and wouldn't mind picking one up for me I'd be glad to pay extra for your troubles. I had planned to attend the Celebration but my back had gotten worse and I can't walk for more than a few minutes at a time.
Thanks

I'm glad I ordered all the books and I think they were well done. I do however think the one about Paisley Park is a bit thin. I wish it would have included more anecdotes from studio engineers and band members about what it was like being there and working there. Maybe even stories from fans who attended concerts there. Just something to give it more heft.

But the Paisley Park book is just a hardbound museum programme. Those sorts of things are never huge necessarily.

I agree with you. However, I much prefer the hardcopy to the original flimsy tour booklet. The hardcopy does have some 'updated'info (like stories about how the 'Under the Cherry Moon' room was intended to be a child's playroom and nursery... but sadly there were no children... the PP tour guides are now mentioning this fact on the tours in that room). There are also closeup photos of equipment inside Studio A and Studio B. On the tour, we cant get close enough to see those specifics so I'm glad its in the book. There are cool stories in the book about people recording there in the late 90s and seeing Prince walk by in his jammies to pop popcorn in the Little Kitchen. I'm glad those stories are finally being told.

I also love how the book explains where the idea of 'Paisley Park' came from. I didnt know that Prince was using the term 'Paisley Park' to describe his rehearsal space in Eden Prairie long before the real Paisley Park was built. It seems that he always had a thing for all things 'Paisley'.

On my latest PP tour, it seemed like everybody and their mama was buying the Paisley Park hardcopy book. It must be the most popular one of the set.

Perhaps, there will be an updated book offered with more input from fans and artists? For some reason, I believe this is only the first 4 offerings of a very long list of books to come...

One last thing, someone asked me to rank the books so here goes my opinion:

1. Tie between 'Paisley Park' and 'Guitar/Basses'
I love that they provided very specific info on the instruments and accessories in the 'Guitar/Bass' book. For instance, I tried to take notes on the tour to verify the 2 pedal boards in the soundstage area and in the studios. I noticed yesterday that the soundstage's pedal board has its own photos and write up in the Guitar book. Another thing is that I noticed that when Prince's blue strat (superbowl) was at Mall of America last year (along with that matching blue suit), it had a Mexican serial number on its neck. Sure enough, made in Mexico, as shown in the 'Guitar' book. I thought that was really cool.

3. Fashion. Nice, lots of clothing photos, very hefty book, but I felt that this book could have had WAY more photos of the man. Disappointed.

4. Celebration. If only it had a few more fan stories or discussions/photos of Prince interactions with common folk, then this one would have beat out the fashion book.

Thanks. Interesting how things are subjective, though. Everything you describe as a con is a pro for me. Do you really want more fan nonsense in the Celebration book? You get that in spades here. No, best to keep it legit.

No problem. Yeah its just my opinion. It is subjective, like opinions. I think the main focus of 'Celebration' is on the fans and on Prince inviting the fans into his life... Thats why there are so many photos of fans throughout that book. I think they did the best they could with the books and its definitely a step forward from the original purple tour book. I hope more hardcover archive books are on the way from Paisley Park.

just received and perused my copy of the guitar and bass book...it is a very nice book. the photos are well shot and the guitars are beautiful.

my only (very minor) gripe would be with the cover image...the should totally have cropped out the shadow/reflection of the guitar at the bottom of the cover.

overall, a very nice book that will accompany your prince collection quite nicely.

Hello everyone,

Haven't posted on this site in a couple of years, but just wanted to echo these sentiments.... I ordered the books 2 weeks ago, still no notification of shipping. Have emailed them twice and not received any information whatsoever. Just looking for a simple "we're working on it" or "we're backordered" or whatever.

They already have my money, just wondering where my merchandise is. I am in Canada for what it's worth. Have any Canadians received their items, or even notification of shipment, or even gotten a reply from customer service?

Anybody know of a phone number I could try? Getting a little annoyed by the silence from PP

I accidentally put the wrong US zip code on my order and then emailed and tweeted at Paisley Park and got zero response. However, the books that arrived for me today had the zip code correct on the package. So, perhaps they're reading but not responding?

Either way, it's frustrating. Especially if you haven't received shipping confirmation.

Are you certain they've billed your card before shipping your order?

Hahaha - UPS tracking showed expected delivery of Wednesday, May 3 for me, in San Antonio. But, they got delivered this morning.

Cool. If you are going to PP, just bring your order number to the giftshop tent, and ask to pick up your order. That's what I did and they were fine with that because my books hadnt shipped yet.

It doesnt make it right but at least you will have your books...

i collect books and am generally pretty discerning as to what i want to keep on my shelves. i can attest to the quality of these (the guitar and bass, at least) books...the paper is nice, thick stock. they are well bound, well printed. the cover is a matte finish with a glossy paisley park logo. i would recommend a clear plastic cover to prevent marks and scuffs. the copy on the spine is a little off center...

i did notice a couple of typos within, and the descriptions accompanying the photos are sometimes a bit wonky; but the photos are well made.

as far as exhibition catalogs go, these are very nice volumes and very respectful to prince and his gear.
