Nice little Prince article on Cracked.com

I wonder if the author Adam Tod Brown is here on the org.

Good to see Prince get so much respect and recognition on Cracked. They write about him quite often.

Some of the comments in the comments section on Facebook are pretty harsh though...someone says how come that some people have never heard of him. I think in hindsight, Prince should have been a bit more mellow with his anti Youtube stance. I know many teenagers who listen to the Beatles, Nirvana, Hendrix, The Ramones....yet they can´t name more than two Prince songs. neutral

Well the way it seems in the world today to the general public prince may only Be about the song purple rain and kiss. That's kind of the reality.

Great article.

I'm wondering, who on here actually has one of the floppy discs that was sent to journalists so they could use his symbol/name in print?

Well plenty of Prince's music was on Youtube and was avalible to buy even on platform sites. He was only off of the major ones for a year and half. Pleny of people brought his music last year after he died and now the music is on all the platforms.

If you do not know his music now you really do not want to know it. In addtion, if you like a lot of those rock acts you named it is unlikely you will like Prince's music. It is not all rock and we still live in a segregated musical landscape.

Pleny of people never heard of the following bands many black people know.

Isley brothers, Commodores, Bar-Kays, Zapp, and Parliment/Funkedelic. It does not mean anything to me if they cannot name two songs by any of these bands.

It drives me crazy when people say man Prince was a great guitarist and point to the RRHOF guitar solo because that's about all they can find on YouTube. I get Prince had his reasons for keeping stuff off it but I do think it might have done more harm than good. I have nephews in their early 20s who are huge music buffs of all eras and one of the reasons is because of things they found on YouTube. I have one nephew who plays guitar who I know would be an even bigger Prince fan if he had access to more of his live stuff.

To be honest, I never understood why Bowie's death had more of an impact than Prince's. A year later, and I see TONS of kids wearing Bowie shirts, listening to his music, and yet he is a much older artist than Prince confused I thought it would be the other way around. Prince seemed liked he attracted a more diverse and multi generational crowd. And Prince also has received a lot of cred from hip hop/r&b artists not just from back in the day but today as well. Like I know the streaming thing is a big part of it, but most of the people I know weren't streaming Bowie, they were going out and buying Ziggy Stardust and Blackstar, like how they bought Purple Rain . No disrespect to Bowie..but honestly what gives?

I'm a big fan of both and I don't see that at all.
