The Song: "Witness"

For those that have heard this song, How is it?

"8) "Witness" (1986)

Another smoking funk song recorded at least three times: a bare-bones version features blazing guitar, a similar version with horns added, and a faster version (probably Prince solo) with an electronic beat."

It's a GREAT song. For real. Top 10% of known Prince Unreleased Tracks.

It's bluesy, sassy, and full of witty lyrics.

Oh yeah, one of the greatest outtakes from the greatest lost album he ever made, The Dream Factory.
Witness (4 the Prosecution) is total Sly meets Hendrix badass funkrock with our narrator exclaiming his obsession with his lover.
I swear by Heaven I love U I always have
In school I once traded chairs
If I couldn't be near U I wanted what was yours
Now I just want U 2 care

The original demo kicks ass. An enticing dish...It starts with heavy drums. Then, liberally add hard rock/bluesy guitar. I have heard one other version, a version where a choir sings Witness 4 the Prosecution, but it sucks.

It's not really a hit song, per se, but it's an awesome song, due to the guitar, nonetheless.

It's unique because P never released a song like this, previously.

There are multiple studio versions of this song in circulation, and they're all great. Would have made a killer maxi single in the 80s. Or, like, now.

Yes!

I've been a fan since '83

I'd always think of this as my favourite

(along with, if I was yourgirlfriend, and Dorothy Parker)

small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!
