Why Do We Love His Unreleased Tracks So Much?

.

for me, apart from them being great songs, is that they aren't overproduced like so much of his later stuff.

.

i love hearing space in songs. i don't mind if they're a little rough around the edges. even the songs that feel like they're the finished version don't have that over bearing produced feel. it's refreshing.

He was just crazy creative. No one had a sound like his. IMO, his music is its own genre.

More like forbidden fruits. The fact that we're not supposed to listen to them makes it extra exciting.

Nailed it.. Easter Eggs and the songs he didn't release are better with 90% of the music we hear on the radio

Because they tell us a story, a background story of the times.
The albums are like a house, the released songs the rooms in the house, but the unreleased tracks are like secret passages stairways rooms and mezzanines in the house

Things that you can't readily have always make you want it more. It's like forbidden fruit.

I could not have said it better. This is exactly how I see it.

Ajourney...the boots are a process, and I find the process much more intriguing most of the time.

Walking alone in the dark, I see nothing u see
I can be in a park, or flying in the…in the deep sea
I wish u’d hold my hand; then everything could b
There’s nothing strange, we’re not deranged
We only want everyday 2 b a Cosmic Day

i believe it was recorded in 1984. go to youtube, type in paisley park instrumental and then sit back and enjoy.

.

funny story. when all these great songs started popping up on youtube after the great one's death i saw this song and never clicked on it. i don't like the paisley park song at all so i thought why would i listen to the instrumental. then one day i clicked on some other song which was actually this song. in the comments section people said the instrumental song was actually called paisley park. sure enough i clicked on the pailey park instrumental link and the riches of sounds entered my brain and i was instantly hooked.

.

Obviously a major part of it is that he has some great unreleased music. Additionally, the search for his hidden treasures actually put a rush in finding and hearing the music for the first time. Some of his singles that many are tired of would be placed in highest acclaim here if they were are only known through an exhaustive search of his unreleased material Can you imagine if you never heard of Purple Rain, and then one day there was info on the org that a new song had been uncovered. People even got excited of finding such classics as Eggplant lol . There is also psychological research that people prefer hard to get things than easily accessible things. It feels like a privilege to get it and to some this may even convey status. Studio 54 was built on the psychological principle.

Bottom line is because they're great! Most artist put some unreleased tracks on their 25th anniversary album and they suck. You see why they weren't released. But our guy was on a whole other level. He produced so much fire they couldn't release it all less they flood the market. And by time it was ok to put out the next album he's moved on so the album or two worth of tracks gets shelved and he throws out a whole other album. We will never see the likes of him again. I hope I'm wrong. But I doubt it. We are blessed to have been here to witness it first hand. That purple music! I'm high!

Excellent analogy! He has some beautiful unreleased masterpieces. A few months back, I came across The Grand Progression and just faint. His voice sounds so young the musical composition is right on point.

Another exciting aspect of his unreleased music is that much of it that has leaked is in lower quality, so there's hope of hearing it all in higher quality someday, if we're lucky. Then it will be like hearing them for the first time all over again.
