Have You Listened to more Prince in the last year than ever before?

I wouild say abolutely.

Since his passing I can only think of one (Superfly - Curtis Mayfield) CD that I've been grooving on that was not Prince.

Even though I've listened to Prince more than anyone else over the last 35 years I think this past year was more concentrated.

Y'll??

It's been the exact opposite for me. I can't think of a time when Ive listened to less Prince. I'm not completely sure of why that is. I haven't watched any of the tributes. I haven't even delved into all of the 'details' surrounding his death. I'm not in denial. I know he's gone, but then again he's not. I've only ever 'known' him through his music his death doesn't change that. Somehow the song 'Comeback' comes to mind.

Good music makes me happy.

Yes. I listened to Prince more than anyone else by a fairly large margin in the 1980s and 1990s, about 2 to 3 hours a week. I listened to such a wide array of artists ( I typically buy most of the output of at least 100), that I just didn't have more time to squeeze more Prince in. This would change dramatically after he would have a new official release: Then I would listen to him daily and not much of other artists for awhile. I played less and less Prince from the late 1990s until he died for a variety of reasons ( some mediocre releases, birth of twins, etc.). Since he died, I have averaged about 10 Prince CDs a week as I have completed his discography, and from the org learned that he had so much more than just his official releases. This year has been a wonderful journey much the same way the 1980s were, albeit at times bittersweet.

Cliff note version: YES wink

I'm the very same way GeminiBrown. It took me a few months but now i can watch his videos sometimes without feeling the tears try to fall and thinking it can't be true. But I do not play any of my DVDs or Prince music.

Sorta being discussed, in a way: http://prince.org/msg/7/440640

But no, I've probably listened less, because for a long time it's just too much of a reminder. I have made myself listen, though. It's as healing as it is hurtful. Just walkin' through the grief, glory comes in the morning.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

i agree with those that said "no" ... to me .. there is this sense that april 2016 was the month that my music died ...

i have seen a few tributes but basically said "eh" ...

i am trying to get into a few "new music " acts etc but ... i have a feeling that nothing will compare so ... why even try ...

Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

not only have i listened to less prince, i listen to less music generally...

i'd say a large portion of my prince consumption was based on anticipation of new material; and then listening to the new stuff until i had it figured out, then the old stuff as a juxtaposition against the new. and on and on...with that no longer an influence, it's kind of bittersweet to listen to the same stuff repeatedly.

i'm just recently starting to come out of the malaise of musical disinterest.

I've always listened to a LOT of Purple Music

during work or workouts all kinds of versions of Computer Blue and Feline are my pump songs, I don't think a day goes by that I don't listen to Computer Blue

But I think I listened to a little less since Prince passed, just so I'm not being overly sentimental. for a short period I could barely listen to much of the music.

But there have been unreleased songs that have come out that I've had to listen too a lot

I would actually say less. I couldn't listen to anything for a few months after his passing. It made me too sad. sad By fall of last year, I was listening a lot again (which I always did in the past). Although I still have a tough time with AOA, SOTTs and Parade...all still make me sad reminding me of his brilliance and that he is no longer with us.

I have been unable to listen to his music since he passed away. I listen to all music much less frequently now which i feel is directly related.

not really. I have listed to a wider range of his albums (each one 5 time each at least--and yes I think the first 15 or so are much better than the last 20ish) but I have always listened to him all the stinking time... a few days after I was getting gas and he was playing and someone said something like "Yeah, I've been listing to him every day the last few days...." I said "I've been listing to him just about every day for the last few decades..."

It's hard to say. I still listen to a lot of his instrumental music at work (NEWS, C-note, Madhouse) - which I always did before. And there've been some older, unreleased recordings that have come my way that I've been enjoying. But where Prince used to be an automatic (no pun intended) thing for me to listen to, now if I listen to him, it's a conscious choice. I always used to be in the right headspace for him, but now I think about it a little more before I hit "play."

I find that the things I listen to most are the things that gave me the greatest joy before he passed. Because they're associated with good times, it's easier for me to hold onto the happier feelings they've always brought. On the other hand, some things I really liked before - like Art Official Age - are harder to listen to now because of the subject matter.

Yes. I've listened to almost nothing but Prince for the last year.

Just a few minutes ago I choose some Springsteen songs to listen to for the day. First time I've done that for any other artist than Prince since April 21, 2016.

I've always listened to him quite compulsively, but the last year has been almost exclusively Prince. And I don't care, I enjoy his music more than anyone else's.

No. I've been listening to his stuff at about the same rate. But maybe been a little more ambitious to make custom compilations--as I read about people's reaction to his music I come up with new ideas for those. If I stick around I'll probably listen to more Prince over time as his archived recordings materialize for commercial consumption.

I should add that after Prince's death, for the first few weeks, I could not listen to Prince--too tough to bear given the circumstance. The last few albums he made prior to his death are harder for me to listen to, because they remind me of his final time, what his struggles may have been, and the finality of his mortal life--ugh. Out of those, Hit n Run: Phase 2 is most uplifting for me.

Hmm, I don't think so. I've always listened to Prince constantly. I'd say I probably savor it more.

I am the same age as Prince ,and aside from what i heard on the radio or at the clubs ,i never was into Prince . Iremember seeing the Get Off performance with the ASSless pants and I thought "really"? Then ,all of a sudden a flurry of Prince news. I was in Toronto last year in March, and the media were making a big deal of the P&M show and I was surprised such a big deal was being made. He had not been on my radar .Then the Moline incident and then his passing. Well since then i have been discovering his musical genius , intrigued by his personality and bummed out that I missed out on his performances,

So to answer your question , after he passed all I listened to was Prince .

It comes and goes. There are days when I want to listen to nothing but Prince and other days when the reminder is just too much and I can't listen to any Prince. But more than ever before? No. Back in 98, 99, 00, I was getting caught up on a lot of music that I had missed out on after 83 and exclusively listened to Prince during those 3 years. Since that time, I listened to him quite a bit, but would start seeking out other artists. In the last year, when I've listened to music, it's been exclusively Prince (with a few odd songs by other artists thrown in the mix on ocassion), but my music consumption has been drastically reduced. Music of any kind is too much of a reminder of what we lost last year, not just with Prince, but other artists last year, too. But Prince was always my mainstay and since he IS music, I've just lost the taste most of the time.

Things like The Breakdown, which I have always interpreted as being about the struggles in life and his relationship with God. And - obviously - Way Back Home.

While I've been a casual fan of Prince all my life (I liked the singles), my hardcore interest really started to kick up around 2010 or 2011. So I was on a ramp up, and this was the year that things really spilled over for me. I think I listened to For You through Batman (including the Black Album) for about 7 months straight. And I just recently started listening to him more again.

I've only dabbled in the 90s and 00s catalog. I'm kinda saving that stuff for when I exhaust his first 10 years of work...which might be a while.
