An issue with the 180g Dirty Mind vinyl repress I picked up the Dirty Mind 180g vinyl repress this morning and I just wondered if anyone else has an issue with skipping on side one? It mostly happens on the title track but also a few times on the rest of side one. I've even ran the record through my SpinClean record cleaner and it still happens. sounds like it could be a EQ issue... something that even I could fix... weird. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

There's no ongoing problem with the pressing. People act like a record company doesn't know how to press records. Adjust the counterweight on the tone arm, etc. It's entirely possible there's too much weight on the backside. Records are made from a metal master (a press or dye, in effect). Not every record has a different dye that it's made from. This ain't Le Creuset where every sand mold is broken after every pot is made. Therefore, since all the records are made from the same mother (the metal master), then it's either that every batch is bad (which is incorrect), or the user is having turntable issues (which is much more plausible). It's sort of how in the old days we'd tape a penny or a nickel on top of the needle to weigh it down a bit. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Learned the hard way years ago. As a teen my parents bought me one of those cheap players...but I still had some of those records from 25 years ago...on my Ion dj03. The way they are damaged is indescribeable. The sound is bad. I have given them all away out of fear of damaging my needle. I went and bought a whole new cartridge in fear! Don't worry I'm not using a Crosley. I have an AT-LP60 which is down the budget end of the spectrum but a solid player nonetheless. It's being replaced with an AT-LP120 shortly but for now I have a non-adjustable counterweight and anti-skate. I had a Technics 1210 but I had to sell it a while back when I was desperate for money. I'm not a vinyl newbie, I'm just having an issue with this one record. The rest of the 180g reissues seem fine (the 4-5 I've listened to anyway). 180g vinyl has deeper grooves, right. Better for sound, but it means more ups and down and back and forths in them grooves. With the sonic range on DM, I can see that needle flying all over the place.

I stuck a small blob of blu-tack on the top of the headshell and that solved the problem. Thanks for the advice guys, I guess a budget turntable isn't the best option for 180g records. Like I said, I'll be upgrading to the LP120 soon. Check out The Collector's Guide to Prince on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/p...4ldzxwlEuy

Mine skips mostly on side one, side 2 is fine. . Iblame my cheap turntable though and find a 5 cent coin on the head will stop this. Because I am worried about damaging the record, I have only playedit twice in the 3 months since I bought my vinyl copy of Dirty Mind. . The quality of the record looks pretty shitty too, I mean there was so much dust and gunk on the record when I took it out of the sleeve (Same with SOTT) and I had to use my brush before I put the thing on, and owning the record upright for a week caused it become partially warped already. . Quality control is a reissue they need to sort out, as my SOTT reissue plays well, but again had dust and some light warps on Record 2 (All my records are stored upright). Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

A lot of that dust and debris will be down to the paper/card inner sleeves (why are companies still using those?). I transfer mine into anti-static polythene inners and just slide those into the outer sleeve next to the original inner, they do more harm than good. Good idea, I will buy some from my wrekka stow and also that way preserve the paper liners, as records have a habit of slipping through them. . I have noticed the rise of very poor quality record players has led to a market for poor quality vinyl pressings as well. Our local store (JB HIFI sylvia park) had no turntables or vinyl records 2 years ago, but now have 3 or shelves devoted to turntables and vinyl records. There are a few Projex and Technics ones at $399 to $900, but unfortunatley, it is mostly Crosley Cruisers and Crosley models of other type and Crosley like player with a wooden base and tiny table (8 inches). None of these shitty players are cheap (Like $189 to $259 NZD) and they sell heaps of them mostly to 16 year old hipsters who buy vinyl copies of shit like Florence and The Machine, Lana del Rey and Zayn records. . They even have a Crosley knock off called Crus Li which looks like a Cruiser, but is even cheaper and has made in China plastered all over it. The Crus Li only costs $139, and has the cheapest and shittiest looking plastic parts of the lot. The vinyl is also similarily high priced with records mostly shrink wrapped and costing at least $35 each, some are $50 or more and have import stickers. Then again this store which has some cheap CD's also has overpriced import ones. The worst was a Jackson 5 "collection" CD imported from the US with 10 forgettable Motown vault songs like "Falling in love with love" and "Forever came today" and it cost $54.95. It was a ghetto dollar store type item. . I even saw a 16 year old hipster carrying a portable record player around, playing some single on it and it looked like a very cheap Crosley with plastic parts. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name
