STRANGE TALES FROM THE RAIN

I love this double vinyl, a Japanese promo.

I read that it was only pressed in 500 copies.

does anyone else on here have it and what do think?

it doesnt include anything ultra rare but is just so nice the way it flows.

love the concept. on various sites people pay up $600 for it now. crazy.

the fold out album cover=awesome too.

I remember my aunt telling me she saw this in the record store back in the day. I didn't believe her at first because it didn't make sense. I really didn't know about limited releases, etc. Fast forward to the years of the internet and I learned it was indeed real. I've seen copies closer to $1000 before Prince's death. It is very, very rare. Basically the songs from the movie, album versions, in the order they're in the movie, plus other older tracks. It's definitely a collector's item, and I've rarely heard anyone here ever mention it, or having it.

To my knowledge, it's no special versions or demos. It's by their respective artists.

Side 1:

Let’s Go Crazy

Jungle Love

Take Me With U

The Beautiful Ones

God

When Doves Cry

Side 2:

Computer Blue

Darlin’ Nikki (spelling error by WB)

Sex Shooter

The Bird

Purple Rain

I Would Die 4 U

Baby I’m A Star

Side 3:
Soft and Wet

I Wanna Be Your Lover

Sexy Dancer

Uptown

Dirty Mind

Do Me, Baby

Side 4:

Sexuality

Controversy

1999

Little Red Corvette

Delirious

The Glamorous Life

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I´ve seen it several times at record fairs in the early 90s and the price was way below 600 dollars.

I went to a record fair recently. They had a LOT of Prince plastered up on the walls. I saw 3 vinyl boots. Charade, some 1987 aftershow, and that one boot where Prince has 3 faces melded together.

(PS Apparently this photo I googled is from SquirrelMeat's Photobucket).

Anyhoo - it's rare, but I'm not sure how much I'd be willing to pay for it.

I picked this up, and its sibling 'His Majesty's Pop Life' for £80 each in '87. That was expensive then. They always commanded top dollar. I sold them in 2005 for considerably more.

Wasn´t there also a Japanese promo CD called "Crown Jewels" ? I think that one was pretty expensive, even back then.

And then there´s that "My Name Was Prince" CD, also a promo and very rare.

I liked the look of the album sleeve of Strange Tales from the Rain (the name was a bit odd though, wasn´t it? )

The colors, the pictures of Apollonia, Prince, The Time, that whole Purple Rain era look.

The Crown Jewels wasn't Japanese.

I would LOVE to get my hands on this thing.
to be honest though by looking at the tracklist...damn this is what the Purple Rain album

SHOULD'VE BEEN!

The tracklist is almost near perfect with having all of the songs straight from

the movie in order (God after The Beautiful Ones?... I'll take it) then you got Sides C/D with songs from his first 5 albums w/ A Glamorous Life as a last track for Side D

and not to mention the cover art plus it's an open fold album with pictures from PR and whatnot, i mean who can go wrong with that??

if i were ballin' with money again i would have to hunt down for this thing razz

Ah i forgot about that one! well the album would've been TOO perfect if it included Modernaire (after Take Me With U). I have downloaded this promo, added this version of the song as track 4 and pretended its in the actual album. lol
