Diamanda Galas can hit higher notes than P, according to a study Details magazine did a long-ass time ago. Though I just recently heard a live track of him SINGING "Thus Spake Zannaleestra" (whateverthehellit'scalled, the 2001: A Space Odyssey theme, I'm ignernt) and his voice was UP THERE. As in, way beyond saying "DAMN, BEYONCE". I was impressed. And a bit scared. | |

I always wondered about that note Mariah sings on Vision of Love, if it was studio tricks. It doesn't matter, her voice is shot now days, unlike P's. | |

Nope, it's not studio tricks, it's annoying, though. just why do female 'soul divas' insist on stretching and bending notes for an eternity? i find it torturous to listen to. Aretha never did any of that nonsense and she was (is) truly soulful. |

Nope, it's not studio tricks, it's annoying, though. just why do female 'soul divas' insist on stretching and bending notes for an eternity? i find it torturous to listen to. Aretha never did any of that nonsense and she was (is) truly soulful. Because Aretha knew what it meant to be a singer, even as teenager. A lot of this generation's singers are into vocal histrionics because they can make an impression on the easily-impressed. Although I do have to admit it's not just confined to this generation either. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes. | |

yeah some singers hit notes higher than, well, you know...but prince has a great tone no matter how high he goes. Mariah just whistles an endless 'ah' or 'oh'. i dont know about anybody else but i prefer a few words in the high octaves | |

Thus spake Zarathustra or Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss and Prince didn't even sing the high notes, he just sang harmony while either Marva King or that other girl sang the high notes. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now! | |

Last April at his NYC concert Prince was still able to reach the high notes flawlessly. I gotta commend the man for his vocal ability. Mariah on the other hand... | |
