Hush... Hush Sweet Cherry Moon

So I'm watching an old film, Hush... Hush Sweet Charlotte, starring Bette Davis Victor Bruno (her co-star in Whatever Happened To Baby Jane? as well; he also played King Tut on Batman & Robin), Bruce Dern, Olivia de Havilland, Agnes Moorehead, Mary Astor, & more.

There's a scene about 10 minutes in, at a party. In another space, Davis' lead character has just found her lover (a married man) dead. She meanders back into a party, in shock, with his blood on the front of her dress. As she comes in from the shadows (only her face is really visible), the party is in full swing. It's a black tie affair. Suddenly, everyone spots her, the band stops playing, the crowd falls into stunned silence. Her father comes in from the other side of the room, and the crowd parts ways to allow him through. He says "Honey, you come with me." She says she doesn't want to. The scene fades.

It's damn near identical to what Prince did when Mary's father shows up at Le Pavillion to retrieve her from her night out with the boys during "Girls and Boys". I don't know if Prince ever watched Hush... Hush Sweet Charlotte, but I'd put money that he might have seen it.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

He was a Turner classic type Hollywood movie junkie. So I believe it is a direct homage/influence.
