Prince Celebration of Life and Music

Next Month on 21-th of April it will be one year ago since Prince passed.

For this day I invited some close friends to have a special evening together to honour the life and music of Prince. They like Prince music, but some of them are not that familiar with his music.

Do you have some suggestions for me? Which video's, concerts/performances and songs would you show during this evening? I'm sure I'm not the only one with this idea. So feel free to share.

It sounds cliche, but if your friends haven't seen the film Purple Rain, I would definitely recommend playing it.

The Chappelle's Show episode featuring Charlie Murphy's true Hollywood story about Prince. Show this AFTER you show Purple Rain.

Play some songs from albums other than PR and 1999.

He lived 21,138 days. He died one. I'm not setting aside a day for the day he died in an elevator by himself from an accidental overdose to remember him. I'll play his music frequently, watch movies & concerts whenever the mood hits me and I need to hear him, as I have over the past year.

I've honored Prince's life every day I've been a fan, and even more since April 21, 2016. But on April 21, I'm not commemorating his death.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I feel similar. This to me seems like an odd day to remember him in celebration. I know he said something about not celebrating birthdays, but still. The date of his sudden, unexpected, and untimely death just doesn't feel like a day to celebrate. There is no way I won't be thinking about him on April 21st, but it's going to be with a very heavy heart.

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Maybe do a celebration of him on his birthday, June 7.

And as I noted in another thread, my mother died April 21, 2012, so Prince is forever taking a distant second place to that.
