From Princevault: This show was televised live and semi live around the world, in Europe through German television channel WDR on the show Rock Palast. A slightly edited version of this broadcast was later released on home video as Prince And The Revolution: Live.

Tickets averaged $17.50. It was near the last stop of the Purple Rain Tour, in Syracuse, New York at the Carrier Dome. There were only five dates left on the tour, after this show.

A note: Doug Henders, who did the artwork for ATWIAD, is listed as a Video Operator in the credits to this show.

I clearly remember watching this with my older sister. I was 14. This show and the few records she had of Prince were my first exposure to the man. I was just getting really into music at this time and Prince made a big impression. I remember buying the twin video cassette version of this in a second hand music shop, then buying the single video version. I had a couple of Japanese Laserdisc's of this release too.

Great gig, neat thread.

I agree. And I think it'd be nice for someone to fix the sound. It sounds like it was pressed on the back of a quarter. The bass is almost non-existent, and the high end is ear-piercing.

Absolutely. The Fullasoul version is probably the best we have at the moment, taken from the Laserdisc with additional work done, iirc some scenes were lightened to make them visible etc, but yeah, a dvd release would be welcome.

I saw the Purple Rain tour 2 days after this was shot, in Indianapolis, IN. I remember that summer walking into my local record store and seeing this VHS tape on the shelf. I couldn't wait to get home and watch it. I had no idea it was coming out. I went to the screening last December at Paisley Park and it was very surreal.

I watch the tour on VHS. It was good.

When the first time I saw the concert on tape, the darker light made it harder to see some of Appollonia 6 because I thought Brenda was Jill Jones because of the short blond hair until I realized later it was Brenda.
