I agree that the list is generally a solid one but that AOA and TGE should have been on it instead of Diamonds and Pearls and perhaps Prince (though it was an important album, songwise I don't think it consistently shines). Chris, what two albums on the final list did you exclude on your own list if you don't mind me asking?

Here's the list I submitted: 1. Sign O' the Times 2. Purple Rain 3. 1999 4. Dirty Mind 5. Parade 6. Lovesexy 7. Around the World in a Day 8. Art Official Age 9. The Gold Experience 10. Prince

This list is almost perfect - take out Lovesexy and put in prince album and it's golden wink

It's a hurtful place, the world, in and of itself. We don't need to add to it. We all need one another. ~ PRN

Thank you for this write-up. Whatever one feels about the ranking of these albums, it is undeniable that Prince's output during this 12-year period is nothing short of astounding and unprecedented in the history of modern music. If he had stopped in 1991, his name would have been forever etched among the great singer/songwriter/musicians. The thing is this: He kept on making great music for another two and 1/2 decades. It would be great to see a list that ranks his later works, as well. Long live Prince Rogers Nelson. heart

We're doggin some WB compared to After Warner Bros (hereon referred to as AWB), but which awb release would you put in the top ten? Which AWB release is better than a WB release?

Yes know opinions are subjective.

As you say its's all opinions but I'd take TRC, Lotusflower and HNR2 before Batman and D&P.

.

TGE and Symbol would make my top 10 of WB releases but I'm sure a lot would disagree.

Predictable

Pretty much. Was a tad surprised not to see Musicology or 3121 as per these mainstream lists.

His newer material gets overlooked, I guessed the default 8/10 before reading the article. It could have been much more interesting by including a wider spectrum of his catalogue.

Sorry to say it's a lazy article.

I'm not sure if my original comment appeared or not, but my Albumism peers and I were asked to submit our personal Top 10 without knowing who chose what. Our head editor simply counted the votes and we decided who would craft a quick write-up for each album that made the Top 10.

For instance, I had Art Official Age and The Gold Experience on my personal list; however, neither of them made the final cut. Hopefully this adds more context - our staff enjoys his full body of work, not just the Warner Bros. years.

I agree with replacing Batman and D&P with LF and TRC. TGE as well.

You could erase Batman from the entire repetoire and nothing would change in the purple fabric universe.

Eck! I want to disagree. I want to say something like, Batman is his best acting on record. I don't know, something, but I would notice it. Like a run in my stockings.

It was trite imho. Not better acting than on Int'l Lover and/or Do Me Baby.

lol come on we got Arms Of Orion.

I thought he pulled off the Joker/Gemini thing in the Partyman and Batdance videos very well. Some of his facial expressions are comedy gold.

I realize that I am passing possibly unfair judgement on Batman. Because Lemon Crush and Vicky Waiting are stellar songs to me but many of the songs seems like he came up with them in his sleep so easily.
