THE LINE appreciation This Unreleased song from i would say the Lovesexy era, is one of my faves. It could've fit well on the album. What does everybody think on here? BOB4theFUNK

Always loved it. It's got a helluva funky groove and the Lovesexy "spirit". I don't think it would have worked on the album, but as a b-side it would have been great. Wasn't this intended for a Sheila E album?

There are 2 versions. one that is more mellow and feels like the Futue, and another that is wilder with a lot going on.

Cross The Line is an unreleased song by Ingrid Chavez, recorded with an improvised musical backing by Prince in mid-December 1987, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (shortly after cancelling the release of "The Black Album", ... Prince's music comprised of reversed synth and organ sounds following Ingrid Chavez's spoken part. Her vocals were later lifted and incorporated into Intermission, which (as a studio track played over the PA) opened the second half of Lovesexy Tour shows. Cross The Line remains unreleased, however. -PrinceVault

I am new to this song...I saw others mentioning it recently, so I gave it a listen. Upon my first listen, I didn't think that much of it. Although I could tell it was from the Lovesexy era, I was glad that it was not on the album. It didn't really grab me...it sounded interesting, and like some of his songs of the time, there was so much going on in it that I know it begged for further listening. I thought I would listen to again, but it wasn't pressing for me. But wouldn't u know it, like so many Prince songs, it got in my head after the first listen!!! Parts of the song started repeating in my head...like they chants that I originally didn't like... and once I played it a second time, it hooked me!! I am so thankful there are songs like this still out there for me to discover!!

Really should've come out even as a b-side from the album.

I could see it working as a b-side., definitely!..(it would have worked as the B-side for Glam Slam or Lovesexy)

Prince re-used Boni's singing as the introduction to Acknowlegde me released on Crystal Ball.
Prince also was intending for The Line to 'be released at a later date' according to the Crystal ball liner notes.
So...release it!
I love both versions but I like the full version much more. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I've always found The Line pretty monotonous on its own, kind of like God is Alive. It needs to be part of a sequence for me not to skip it. It sounds incomplete to me. Cutting it from Lovesexy was a good call.

Line #2 is much more... instruments, yelps, lyrics etc but it is too busy and could be focused better
