I think this is one of Prince's more iconic looks, other than his Purple Rain or Parade era looks. The hair with the fingerwaves is a hair stylist's dream. The times when the facial hair was a bit more subdued during this time made it even better. Then when he tied a silk scarf around his head (a lot "Gett Off") - ahhh, love it! The bright yellow, with the black cloud. Hoofah. I have a poster from this same photo session that is my favorite.

It's a candid shot. Those aren't always perfect, yet that's what makes them so uniquely perfect for us as fans. It's not exactly like looking through a glass of water or something. But when you sometimes have one chance to get a photo of a person like Prince in a candid moment, you get it - no matter what.

For me, I wouldn't want a whole book of only professional shots from a sitting or a shoot. These moments, like this photo, are what makes it worth buying a book like this. Parke was there a long time, as was Jennings, and had a good relationship with his boss. Parke is a fan, as much as a former employee. I trust that he's put some really cool shots in that book, candid and otherwise. I'll take a slightly out of focus shot like this in favor of another one of him standing in a glittery coat spinning and emoting. (Although when I see those sorts of pics, I sometimes think "did he fart during that pic?" just as... you know, whatever.)

Prior to the Rave CD. at a Paisley party one night Prince came out wearing his hair like this. I went wild. I couldn't wipe the smile off of my face, all I could feel was the FREEDOM Prince was rocking. FREEDOM to switch his hair or life up however he wanted. He was fun, a game player, imaginative. There really will never be Another One like Prince. All the gifts he gave us will linger long, the smiles, the laughter, the love, the Music. I never had more fun in my life than the times I spent around Prince and fans watching and listening to this Magical Music Man. Prince was Non Stop Musical Imagination and Inspiration to many. He changed lives and made me smile more than anyone else in the Universe

I agree. The finger waves were the last look i and many others really began to love, but now I do. This look is so unique. He was just amazing! The tight plaitlets all close to his head tho in that other famous photo (sorry, haven't figured out how to post pics) are said to be photoshopped (?) [Edited 3/24/17 15:55pm]

It's the eyebrows that get me about that era. I still don't quite understand how one person got their eyebrows in so many different shapes....

That was the worst era/hairstyle IMO.

It wasn't the finest for sure, but that photo is one of my favourites...he looks so strong and so vulnerable at the same time.

Here's another of Prince with the plaits and ribbons, this time with a cowboy-looking hat. In terms of make-up, other than light eyeliner, I don't think he's wearing much. (Swoon!!!)
