Maybe it's the tape compression, distorsion, an artefact of the bootleg, who knows.
But the guitars on the end are louder than on GB, the needles hit the red area,

Same goes for "Moonbeam Levels", the very first bootleg circulating was sped up, sound quality was atrocious, but I'm pretty sure it was a rough mix, the volumes balance is different than the the EX version that surfaced in 2015 (the official release is poorly mastered in comparison).

Either way, I prefer it distorted. There's a bootleg called "Road to 3121" where SNL's "Fury" is über-compressed, and it suits the performance perfectly. When I heard the pristine sound of the HQ video capture, I was disappointed.

In my book, "Joy In Repetition" has to be dark and filthy as a big city's curb of a back alley.

Yes, the one with the delayed Linn toms intro.
The use of silence is just perfect.

I hated it when I heard the "Alphabet St." intro over the GB version.
And not only because of the intro, but clearly the mix is different,
you can tell even if the quality of the bootleg is not EX.

The guitars intertwining at the end are more upfront in the mix on this bootlegged version,
and it makes the "Why don't U love me" cries much more poignant.

When GB was released we were excited that this song and We Can Funk were going to be released. But when we heard the party voices used and the slow drum intro removed we were pissed. Thinking.... ok... number one, you have tons and tons of unreleased music. Why recycle a part of a song from a past album? But number two.... that intro was killer! Why do that to this song? Not realizing at the time that The Ball and Joy In Repetition had been spliced together at one point. The version of the Ball I had was bad quality and faded out. So I didn't catch how The Ball bled into Joy In Repetition. Later on when I got a better copy of The Ball I figured things out. But then I just saw it as being lazy. Because he just lifted it from that shelved project and dropped in to GB and called it a day. He should have figured out a way to fit Joy In Repetition on GB and still include the slow drum intro. I don't know the rest of the song being remixed. I don't have a very clear copy of the early version. I just listed to this again on headphones and to me its still the same.
