I agree that this is a great line. It's definitely sad, but I think what I like most about it is how succinct it is. ICNTTPOYM is a great example of Prince as a lyrical storyteller. It's amazing how he is able to fit all of the lyrics to this song into less than 3 minutes of the song. My favorite lines of the song are probably these:
