iTUNES FLEXES CLEVER CATALOG MANEUVER
After curating a section called "All-Time Essential Albums" and pricing them at a bargain rate of $7.99, iTunes has promptly created a nostalgic effect on their Top 10 albums, which now almost reads like a chart from the 1980s. Although no one is shaking Ed Sheeran from his #1 perch with Divide, currently Michael Jackson's Thriller sits at #2, Prince's Purple Rain at #5 and The Beastie Boys' Licensed to Ill at #7. Amy Winehouse's classic Back To Black is at #8 and the Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol 1—packed with 70's retro hits from the Jackson 5, David Bowie, 10cc and the Runaways to name a few— is at #6. Catalog, baby. And at the right price, potentially irresistible to Millennials who were not born yet when most of these records were released.

My question about PURPLE RAIN is... The last time PURPLE RAIN was certified by the RIAA was in 1996 for 13x Platinum. It seems every few years MJ's THRILLER gets another certification, most recently 33x Platinum by the RIAA...
It's been over 21 years since PURPLE RAIN has been certified, surely it has sold another million copies in the U.S. over all these years including the surge in sales after his passing... Also with the PR DELUXE coming soon, I'm wondering if it will ever get certified again by the RIAA.

. ...and we keep hearing sold over 100 million albums. That number is SO out of date. Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

WB might recertify as a marketing tool for the PR deluxe edition

That is still the claim. THRILLER sold over 33 million in the U.S. alone... Worldwide Thriller's sales are claimed to be over 100 million.

Yeah, and MJ wouldn't give an interview or make an appearance without a contractual requirement that he be called "king of pop". He even created awards to be given to himself and others that were named after himself. . Prince didn't give two flying fucks about garbage like that. He won with the film Purple Rain and musicianship. . Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

It's amazing that a new generation is discovering this masterpiece. [Edited 3/18/17 16:22pm]

Didn't Prince mention in an interview with Tavis Smiley he was conducting his own audit?

Of course, even if he sounds Soundscan wasn't paying him, they wouldn't adjust the numbers. http://la-story.com/2009/...interview/ Welcome to "the org", laytonian… come bathe with me.

Maybe I missed something; however, there was nothing in this article that showed any proof that Michael REQUIRED anyone to call him the King of Pop.

. Actually he did do that and it was common knowledge in the 1999s. So you are telling a lie that he never did it.
