Was this Prince's inspiration for "Dont talk to strangers" ?

Okay, so what do you all think...

I think this was the song that inspired Prince when he wrote "Dont talk to Strangers" from the Girl 6 soundtrack. There is an intro but keep listening!

I have to say, that sounds more to me like it could be the inspiration for "Willing and Able" than "Don't Talk To Strangers". shrug

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

His inspiration was the movie, if memory serves. Tracy Ullman's character tells her daughter "don't talk to strangers, say your prayer at night." etc. It was a leftover track by the time Girl 6 came out. But it was written for the I'll Do Anything movie, as was "Wow". Tracy Ullman recorded a version of it, but of course it being a musical was soon scrapped. (I'm sorta glad, because to hear Nick Nolte try to sing - eegads). I love Chaka's version on Come 2 My House.

Princevault notes that some of the original track was used in Chaka's re-recorded version. Remember, Girl 6 was really a compilation, not an original soundtrack per se, despite the few new or extended tracks on there. It's nice that Don't Talk 2 Strangers made the cut, though. It's a sweet little ditty.

By the way, the movie was released on my birthday in 1996. Boom-pow.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

March 22nd. So now I finally know how I celebrated your birthday that year - by seeing 'Girl 6' on opening day.

.

I enjoyed the movie, but haven't seen it since that day. HOW could that be 21 years ago?? WHAT did I do with all that time??

.

In case I forget - happy EARLY birthday! party

This song always reminded me of Sweet Baby from the prince album.

Very similar singing style, with very similar lyrical content.

I never saw it in theaters, but I did rent it after.

I invited my friend Bob over to watch it with me, and he groaned when "songs by Prince" came up on the screen. Of course, he was a horny dude who went to Hooters "for the wings", and liked the idea of women being phone babes.

Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

We have the same birthday. I wish I could have spent it watching girl 6. I remember years ago when it first came out. I was working in a homeless shelter and one of the residents sold bootlegged DVD/CD and so residents watched girl 6. I was standing next to one of them that was areally good guy. Whenever a song would lay, I would sing it. After awhile he says, "Damn this just came out, how do you know the songs." I just laughed. I never gave him an answer.
