The Sheriff's Department said the case is still open and active

so there will be no comments on the details?

WTF does that mean?

Why would you release documents when the case is still active?

I'm assuming it will be heavily redacted if the case is still active.

Another reason the "celebration" should have been scheduled at another time. These people knew information was going to come out - or not - on April 17. Why celebrate his death at all?

So this vault deal is largely worthless as it is only valid for a certain (small) period of his career.

Eventually WB might get the vault for an even nicer price.

Of course they will but if Prince wanted to work with them so be it. I also think the Tidal is not in danger since something in his deal with WB was allowing him to work with Tidal with all the WB stuff being on the site.

.

Its is sad that a simple sale has to go like it did.

The article at http://www.mncourts.gov/m...Silton.pdf describes some of the circumstances.

Apparently 3 million dollars is not enough anymore to get some quality in the sales process.

Refund will be coming up.

further:

'Warner, which released Prince’s first 18 albums containing most of the hits,

signed another record deal with Prince in 2014 that secured its ownership of all of those albums in perpetuity overseas,

while giving it the right to block future releases from Prince’s storied vault —the centerpiece of Universal’s deal—

if the tunes were recorded while he was under contract with Warner.'

This is interesting because in The Most Beautiful (page 138 to be exact), Mayte mentions that there is a lot of material in The Vault from the prince and 3 Chains o' Gold eras (1992-1994 ish).

-/- Realize that the vault was not sold. This deal was a licensing deal similar to the deal Prince had already worked himself with WB for WB albums. It is obvious that Koppleman and Lonnie wanted to get that 3 million dollar paycheck. I cannot understand how they did not know that WB had international rights forever maybe if they had bothered to respond to WB instead of being in cahoots with UMG. I hope they both get sued and people in the industry stay as far away from these two as possible. At best they are swindlers and/or incompetent.

One sells a license to something.

I do agree with your remark about Koppelman and McMillan.

When 10% is a reasonable fee for doing a deal in such a shoddy way then I believe that the same 10% is a reasonable compensation for getting the sold license returned with a reasonable complaint.

No sale, no fee.

Or else they should get sued for more than these 10%. Fraud perhaps. 'Misselling'.

Why oh why can't anything go smooth here?

If it is a tribute concert, a license sale, finding the heirs or even a will...

Ok, I don’t know anything about the music industry. Are all of you saying that Prince himself gave up (licensed all use) all control to all his music to WB internationally? As in the entire world except for domestically? Forever???? Sorry to be dense, I just don’t understand. Please give me the Prince WP licensing for dummies version. thank you.

See, to ME, that suggests that P knew he didn't have long for this world...To sign up to something permanent like that when this is a man who preferred freedom, flexibility, and the ability to negotiate one-off deals, giving one company total control over his product indefinitely (albeit overseas) seems to indicate that it was no longer appropriate or of interest to him to retain that independence.

Excluded heirs AKA fake heirs.

I believe he was dealing with a few health issues doing a deal forever and if we find out he gave POA to someone the writing is on the wall.

---- I thought that Tidal was saying that they do not have his signature on the equity term agreement because someone else had POA so they did not need to have his signature. I believe that is way this story was in the Hollywood reporter.
---- See article from the Hollywood Lawyer that goes into more detail about Tidal's claims.

I don't think any one person or any entity knows everything Prince was doing legally/financially that last year, or even two years. Add in his alleged medical issues, and it is unbelievably complicated. Now we have a fighting family, administrators who are either incompetent or too diligent, outside companies which may own more of his work product than anyone knows, and I can foresee at least two to five more years of wrangling to straighten things out. Didn't Michael Jackson's estate take about that long to reach some semblance of calm, and he had a will. The manager from Graceland said Paisley Park was "triaged" to get it to the point it could be open to the public again ... Prince, who was so meticulous about PP, apparently didn't care about the maintenance of the building complex in his final years. I don't think any of us could have imagined what has happened and/or been revealed since April 21. I know I couldn't.

The only thing they mentioned was the Heat/HVAC system which could have conked out the day he died for all we know. The building had to be brung up to code to be converted into a musuem so I think that may be what they are refering to.

Remember he was recording with musicians up and til January and none of them have said anything about the building being in disrepair.

I think contracts are usually pretty clear and some people managing his estate are trying to illegally chanllege these contracts and did not take the time to due their due dilengence.

That is not Prince's fault. He made a deal with WB that he loudly trumped in the media so he must have been happy with it and if that deal means each album has different terms and conditions that means only WB will have interest in his material I suspect the deal was structed in this manner to stop estate managers from circumventing his wishes as a will might have been contested.

How can you contest or break a contract that may have given WB licensing rights forever for some of the albums if not all. Prince knew what he was doing at least as far as this deal was concerned.

That is the Federal Case.

One in Federal Court.

One in Probate Court.
