I really wish there were more boots of the SOTT tour. I've never really seen anything from that tour other than the movie, which was more Paisley Park reshoots than real footage. I think had he toured in the US for SOTT, it would have been on even the casual fan's favorite list.

The Sabotage/4DaFunk rehearsal sessions from SOTT nearly make the dearth of concert recordings OK by me.

"it" come on my Spotify todsy. Banging track way ahead of it's time. Sounds as modern as anything on the radio. Puts the little young ones to shame.

Yeah, those are great. I have a lot of those SOTT soundboard rehearsals. It's interesting hearing the set list change over time. I wish he'd stuck with the near-album order he started with. Either way, I love those recordings, and I love that version of "Girls and Boys".

Same here, and his working through Baby Go Go is unreal.

Ugg, that damn song! I hate it so much! haha It's so disjointed, and weird. But "The Sex of It" work through is pretty cool.

At the end of one of those disks (although it might be a Lovesexy rehearsal, but I think it's SOTT), Sheila and Boni and talking back and forth, and Sheila jokingly says, in a funny voice, "Hey you got some drugs?!" hahahaha

Funny you say that because Prince has a lot of songs that have aged really well. Almost the entire SOTT album doesn't sound like 1987. If I didn't know the year of its release, it would be hard to pinpoint it as being from the mid to late 1980s. The only songs that really scream 1987 to me are the title track and U Got the Look. The title track is the only song that sounds dated, and the reason it sounds dated is because of the lyrical content. The baseline is still crackin'. I'm a teacher (I teach K-1 Autistic Support) and I use music to transition between activities. The song of the week in my room this past week was Starfish and Coffee. Starfish and Coffee could have come out within the last 10 years, it sounds so modern. If I Was Your Girlfriend is so different that it would be groundbreaking if it came out today. The album is a classic and has aged very gracefully.

Isn't it weird that there's no video document of the tour other than the movie? i mean not even bootlegs.

I love the first disc of that set, I listened to it again the other day to mark the 30th anniversary. I agree on wishing he would have stuck to something close to that running order but the few examples we have of recorded main shows are still pretty great so I can't complain too much. Would also have been nice to have got a performance similar to that amazing rendition of U Got The Look in the film rather than just the video. I often like to append the rehearsal version of Adore from disc 3 on to that first runthrough, that way you have an almost complete "live" version of SOTT, just lacking It.

It does seem a little odd that say even a single camera recording has ever leaked from it, unlike with pretty much every tour. I guess the 4 Those Of You On Valium DVD and the concert with Miles Davis partially make up for that but still would be great to see real footage of the main tour, I've always wondered how "staged" the film version is in comparison.
