Essence

Do you want a Purple Rain Anniversary Tour?

According to a news item he will be doing a Purple Rain 20th Anniversary tour in 2004.

Wouldn't jumping heavily into the nostalgia circuit fly against the whole thought pattern of the recent independent years and the One Nite Alone tour?

Maybe he'll use it to cash in his publicity chips for one more stab at the charts...

Only if the Revolution and the Linn drum and the OB1 synths are apart of it all, otherwise what's the point?

Bruce did it with the E-street Band in 1999/2000. twas a triumph... Think of all the media attention this would generate... Live album afterwars... Roadhouse Garden released to coincide with the tour... Definitive Revolution 6CD outtake collection compiled. Bring it on P!

this will never happen...i hope for a tour, but not under this 'name'. Should he re-activate The Revolution for this, or what? Maybe more songs from this period will be performed, but wasn't that so on the Hit'n Run tour 2000/01 (nearly complete Purple-Rain-Songs-Performance)? I can't see no sense with this again.
It would be much better to hear COMPLETE NEW MATERIAL plus some long forgotten classics which weren't played live for a long time.

and if you believe anything the UK media (specifically the papers with a rumour page) ever says then you will be the only one ringing up Ticketmaster, driving them crazee looking for a tour that never existed to anyone from Minneapolis in the first place.

Yeah, I won 1st prize in a fancy dress compo dressed as Prince circa Purple Rain and I'd love the chance to bust out my Purple Mac again, seeing as Prince never toured PR in the UK . Please??

It could be interesting, maybe he could do a show in
2 halves like Lovesexy. 1st half: new stuff, faves, &
other stuff. 2nd half: the complete Purple Rain album.

I thought they would wait for the 30 year anniversery to do this...isn't it too early still?

It's not too early PEJ. Many things in entertainment are acknowleged at 20 years.

I don't know if I'd want to see an anniversary tour, especially if Prince redoes all the songs. Also don't know if I'd want to see them done w/ the NPG. PR and The Revolution are like hand and lace glove.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Yeah, a tour would only really make sense if he
reformed The Revolution especially for it.

I would be happy if he would play the full album as part of the show.

Pink Floyd did that with "Dark Side Of The Moon" as part of thir 1994-tour and it was great.

I would love to hear him sing "Darling Nikki"

yah, but with the way he 'cleanses' his songs now, you may not enjoy this nearly as much

in theory, it'd be fun, but with the reality of how Prince is right now, it'd get all messed-up

.....

FUCK NO.

Prince isn't some 2-hit wonder from the 80s, he doesn't need to do those embarassing Reunion tours (although I went to one last year, and it was great to see Five Star, THL and Kimmy smile )

This is related a little.

When Prince gets inducted into The Rock and Roll HOF Next year will he have all of his band members past and present join him onstage?

Maybe Warners will do like Motown did with the Marvin Gaye and Teena Marie music and release additional trax on a Purple Rain 20th anniversary CD..

I wonder is it possible to release a "directors cut" of Purple Rain on DVD?

No way. It would be embarrassing and a retarded thing to do. Now working with Wendy And Lisa again now i would dig that but a anniversary tour...no chance. It would be massive though as my sister would go and shes typical of the casual Prince fans.

Yea, right, and he should unpack his frilly purple suit out of moth balls and reform the Revolution. He will only do one interview with Rolling Stone, but only give odd, obscure answers and ride onto stage with that purple motorcycle. Have a recreation of lake Minnetonka on stage instead of a bath tub this time, and Appolonia could simulate a blow job on stage as well. He will invite people on stage, but will have his bodyguards beat up any of them who look at him. He will play a piano version of Purple Rain then pretent to throw a bunch of stuff around like the scene in the movie, while he does the song again on guitar for an hour straight, and does the longest, boring guitar solo ever. He could ejaculate purple koolaid on the front row and then go off to beat up photographers.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

damn freaky u need to take a pill, have a long talk with jesus and then find a way to get rid of these issues u have with purple rain...did u bathe in it, did u get caught up in it? or did it stop raining right after the person in front of u got finished.. did it offend u that it was apolonia not u that was naked in front of Prince? did it offend u that wendy got to simulate a blow job with Prince?
did one of his bodyguards beat u up on stage for looking at prince, and lastly, did he throw things at u?

damn u are an angry soul...

now that, that matter is behind us,

i would love to see a purple rain anniversary tour, but only if the promise that Larry Graham and Tina Graham will not be in the building... then P can do whatever he wants.. but seriously, they can be in te building, just not in the band. and prince can not perform everyday people...lol...

i would actually be happy with a new album and tour, no matter what the theme is ... so just save me a seat..but nowhere next to 2freaky4church1...lol
