PURPLE RAIN STAGE

For the PR tour, on a lot of the videos, the guys onstage are running around all these catwalks and stairs throughout. Like in Delirious, P runs to the catwalk in the back, Beautiful Ones, he plays a piano on that back catwalk, walks to the back to a bunch of screams, Irresistable Bitch he climbs up what seems like the height of a two story building and jams out on top. It seems like it was a MASSIVE stage, and the fact that there was people wrapped around the stadium getting barely a good view from the back seems odd to me. I mean yeah I would want to get as close to him as possible, but having a huge rigging structure blocking 70% of the stage seems HIGHLY problematic for a concert goer. Anybody on the ORG who was there could clarify this? I'm a music buff and a concert goer so I notice these weird things lol lol

...better than another butt and hair thread I guess

It was said on a few reviews how he seemed to disappear in the grandiosity of the stage at certain times.

No wonder he hated that tour so much.

he loved his playgrounds.

But wasn't the Lovesexy tour very similar in many ways a large percent of the audience was to his back at time?

He designed it right?

How was that for the public?

I saw Lovesexy in Rotterdam, so front-end. Maybe all the props on stage in combinatioen with the in the round was a bit to much?

But i've seen 2 O2-shows and must say it didn't really matter. Enjoyed it very much!

The Lovesexy Tour worked because he was all over that stage. It was more engaging than being at the back of an auditorium 75 yards away from anyway. It's a bit like being at a basketball game - you might not always be near where they make a goal, but you can still see the game no matter what. It was the most theatrical show to that point. We've not seen much of SOTT (for those of us who didn't get to go), and later tours were more straight ahead playing. No dramatics or storylines per se, which I sort of missed.

Seeing the PR tour, I'd have to agree about him disappearing in the grandiosity of it. Even on the Syracuse video there are times where the viewer is a bit confused as to exactly where the fuck he went.

I've yet to read that he hated the PR tour. The 1999 Tour was the tour from hell, by everyone's account. He didn't hate the PR tour as much as he was just done with Purple Rain in general. It was so, so huge at the time, I think we were all tired of it a bit of hearing "When Doves Cry" for a minute. "Raspberry Beret" in April was a nice change.

Some other pics. A wider shot of the one already posted, and the b&w one is Miami (Orange Bowl dubbed the Purple Bowl), still being constructed:
