Did anyone submit songs for p to record? Did any artist write a song for p that he turned down? Apart from band members & MJ's bad, i don't think I've ever read that someone went to him with a song they wanted him to record.

i remember reading that he was successfuly sued for eye hate u, I doubt it's true though. The era of submitting songs was pretty much over by the 80's though, still happened but... most of the artists were self-contained. also, accepting submissions is not something most people even feel comfortable with because we live in this sue happy country, MJ was sued a million times by songwriters, Prince was sued several times too.

I do not know about Eye Hate U but he lost a case over "the Most Beautiful Girl In the World" "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

indeed he did but that was in an italian court, italian courts, from what i've seen in the amanda knox case, are kinda kangaroo like. I wonder if he ever paid dime one to those folks. I didn't think it was justified. every song has something similar to another song.

Wasn't it Tyka or Sharon that sued him over "U Got The Look", saying he stole their song "Sho' Nuff Cookin'"? Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

Like a lot of acts and publishing companies, I'm sure he had a blanket policy of not accepting unsolicited material, for fear of litigation.

Not sure about actual artists, but there were some fans that tried to give Prince their songs during the soundchecks of the "One Night Alone - Live" tour. There are some EPIC threads on those interactions!

On November 5, 2007, several Prince fan sites formed "Prince Fans United" to fight back against legal requests they claim Prince made to cease and desist all use of photographs, images, lyrics, album covers and anything linked to Prince's likeness.
F.U.N.K. was originally streamed on PrinceFansUnited.com (also known as "PFU") as PFUnk, within two days of the site's opening, as a 'gift' from Prince in response to the site's criticism of Prince's approach towards fan websites. Prince was said to have written and recorded the track directly in response to the criticism, and offered it to PrinceFansUnited.com as a response, but in fact he only wrote updated lyrics and re-recorded an existing vault track, F.U.N.K.. The following week, it was streamed as the Jam Of The Week on 3121.com using its original title F.U.N.K., and within a few days, F.U.N.K. was available as a stand-alone download single on iTunes. Shelby J. also streamed the track on her MySpace page, along with a brief spoken intro by her (without any known Prince input). Initial recording dates are unknown, but engineer Jesse Sutcliffe says this song was recorded around the time the Musicologyalbum was conceived which places its initial recording around 2003 or early 2004. It is believed Prince updated the lyrics and re-recorded the track on 7 November 2007, the day before it was sent to PrinceFansUnited.com.

[/quote] Pharrell of the Neptunes reveals origin of hit single "Frontin" On a hot local L.A.radio station, super producer Pharrell of the Neptunes revealed that his hit single "frontin" was written especially for Prince. Pharrell made several attempts to contact Prince but the phone calls were never returned. The song sat on the shelf until he was urged by other artists to release it as a solo effort.

I just flashed on an image of a sand dollar. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
