Good article, but it's the same comments that go round and round again - and even more so on here.

.

However, it has to be said that releasing multiple re-issues on RSD is very manipulative and will catch out quite a few people.

.

These re-issues are printed in fairly vast quantities, around 3000, but they don't sell. All re-issues to date are still available online and instore.

.

Releasing these on RSD will trick people into thinking they are exclusive - they aren't - and I'm sure the price will double.

.

I suppose time will tell, but those looking to make a profit on eBay will find themselves stuck with items that just won't sell - well at least not for the inflated prices we can expect on eBay.

Seriously, what kind of idiot looked at that SOTT single cover and thought "that's Prince"?

.

Also:

.

That means the label probably possesses a copy of, say, the 14-minute “Computer Blue,” but it doesn’t have access to the original recording.

.

Aaaargh. Don't these people know anything? Don't they know the difference between a multi-track and the mixdown?

What part of the above quote makes you think they don't know the difference? The sentence could simply mean that Warners might have a 2-track master (or a copy of it) for the 14-minute version, but they don't have access to the multitrack as that is stored in Paisley Park.

I think we can agree that we do not know if Warners has copies (either 2-track masters or duplicates) of any unreleased Prince stuff in their own archives or not. I assume they do possess at least copies of the 2-track tapes for some unreleased songs.

But they don't need the multi-track. You only need access to the multi-track if you're going to do a new mix etc.

Bart, I'm a sound engineer, I know what a multitrack is. I just wanted to say that the sentence you quoted from the article could mean several different things, it doesn't mean they don't know the difference between tape types.

It's possible that Warners have a copy of the 2-track but it's a 2nd gen. copy, not good enough for release. It's also possible that it's just a rough mix, so to do it justice, they would need access to the multitrack to make a new mix. Or they might only have a cassette copy – who knows?

Which was s why Moonbeam Levels sounded no better than what was on bootlegs for years. Because warners has no access to his originals.

Exact > And for the forthcoming Deluxe Edition of Purple Rain...WB will no have other choice to pick up Outtake mixdown versions from their Vault...they have no access anymore 2 the Masters and other demos/outtakes not from their vault(> for those not destroyed/erased by Prince himself during the 2000's) in the hands of the Estate right now!

God tell me about it. I'm from Manchester in the UK and when I was 14 I was visiting relatives in Toronto. I was I a record store and some teenage lads were sniggering about prince dressed as a woman. I went mad and explained it was cat. Arseholes

Again, this is nonsensical speculation.

I think the reissues of the vinyl singles are cool. I think know as to why a certain release is being reissued (now) after all this time. Bring it on. As for the Purple Rain deluxe edition, I think NPG/Warner will get it right and come with a great release. I have my own predictions as to what may be on the tracklist. I've made my own tracklist as to what I want on there as well as those 2 DVD included. I think my list is on point but, we'll see in the weeks to come.

I don't know, it may not be as dire as some are making it seem. WB not only announced the actual release date for this project, but stated it will have two albums worth of unreleased tracks, plus two concert dvds with thie remastered version of PR. If we still don't know the price and tracklist by the end of April, then it will be time for concern.

Seriously, is there anybody here who still thinks that WB will release PR deluxe on june 9th?

Its in less than 2 months and a half ; it would have been on amazon by now with the full tracklist.

I feel like George Michael's Listen without Prejudice deluxe track list has been up for several months and it comes out in May. So I am a little woried. Come one WB. You guys are screwing up my comic book flicks. Please handle your music better than you do your movies.
