When does Prince the rocker get a proper tribute? Yesterday I found video from Prince's 2014 concert at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. Thankfully I saved it down as the user has since removed from YouTube. I loved the show because it was a smaller setting and the band just rocked so hard for most of it. Prince phenomenal on guitar as usual. I've said this before and I'll say it again, I think Prince the rocker doesn't get enough attention and tribute. I remember after Prince passed friends of mine who aren't really Prince fans and others on social media being amazed at how good of a guitar player Prince was and that was only from seeing the RRHOF performance. If I showed them this concert video the first thing out of their mouths would be "wow I didn't know Prince could rock that hard and shred on guitar like that". When do we get a real rock tribute to Prince? I guess Lenny was the closest we'll get (I don't count Bruno Mars karaoke) but it makes me sad that the rocker part of Prince isn't celebrated more. Here's just a few songs that I have yet to see performed at any Prince tribute: Bambi, Guitar, I Like it There, Empty Room, When You Were Mine, Dreamer, Alphabet Street, The Love We Make, I Could Nevet Take The Place of UR Man, Colonized Mind, She's Always in my Hair, any 3EG stuff. I guess that just like George Clinton, Prince was too black for the white folks and too white for the black folks! Or, just like Frank Zappa, he was just too diverse musically to be pigeonholed into one genre... Those crazy geniusses never get the attention they deserve from the mainstream media because they're just too... crazy... But that's what we like about them, right?  | |

Apple Music tags Prince as R&B/Soul. Nothing against that genre but  Paisley Park is in your heart

As I said on another thread... Whenever I'm in a record store, I never know where to look for the Prince records... Some put him under "soul", others under "pop"... | |

* I don't ever remember a time, review, or anything that would affirm that George Clinton was too anything for black folks. In fact, I can't remember hearing a black person of Clinton's age or generation say that he was not "anything" enough for them. I somewhat understand your Prince notion, because there have always been some folks in each the white and black community complaining that he is not “something” enough for them, but George Clinton has always been regarded by the black community as a perfect example of the genius of the black community. Of course, if you can provide a review or something that shows me to be wrong, I'll yield to that.

Commercially for the uninitiated Prince is WB material and nothing else, arguably his most recent 3rdEyeGirl material was as Rocky as ever, anybody fortunate to see anything over his last few years would testify to that. Some of the vids on YouTube have been incredible, unfortunately they don't last long and get deleted. | |

The Lenny Kravitz tribute at RRHOF in Brooklyn the other day was pretty badass rock. I teared up a little bit at it and I think he did something P would appreciate, not just a cookie cutter karaoke piece like Bruno or Madonna. Lenny, Sheila, and D'Angelo did the best so far IMO. if it was just a dream, call me a dreamer 2 | |

I would throw BK Jackson in there even though it was just a sax instrumental. A lot of emotion and passion and his performance. Paisley Park is in your heart
